Dec-17-01, 04:30 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Adding new tiles" You can add new tiles by going to the Route Geometry Editor, select your route and load the quad tree. You can then add new tiles by clicking on the tiles you wish to add and doing the 'toggle selection' and follow the same proceedure as when you first created the route. When you go to write the new tiles it will just create those added since the last time you generated the route. For elevation data, I just don't know -- other than doing it manually, tile-by-tile or applying DEM data to just those tiles. Dec-17-01, 05:59 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Adding new tiles" Here's what I've been doing. There may be better ways, but this works for me.This assumes that you have an existing route you want to expand. When you want to expand the route here's what you do.Using the route geography creator, make a new "dummy" route with all the new tiles that you want to add. They don't have to be adjacent to each other. You could add a couple at each end of the route, what ever you want. If they are widely scattered, you might want to note Lat/Long of a point on each tile. Don't forget to pick a start tile.Use Demex to do the terrain on the dummy route. You should have one DEM file that covers all the tiles. When you're done, open it in the editor and adjust the tile ceiling height. This is where the Lat/Long comes in handy if the tiles are scattered. You can jump the camera right to each tile. Save the route when you're done. Now copy the contents of the dummy route's tile folder into your existing route's tile folder. It shouldn't have to over-write anything if you picked your tiles correctly. Now open your route in the route geography creator. Load the quad tree, and add each of the new tiles that you want to add (the same tiles that you added to the dummy route.) Don't generate the tiles though, just save the quad tree and exit. Now when you open your existing route in the route editor, voila, you should have the new tiles complete with terrain, and your old tiles should be untouched.Hope this helps.Steve

Dec-17-01, 06:11 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Adding new tiles" suckowi took your Approach and it works well, so that is one thing that i would do, and there is another way, i didn't do this but i seen a topic about this, go into the rge, pick the new tiles, go ahead and create those tiles, then go into the Tiles directory sort by date, take the tiles with the "MOST RECENT" date "They will have the same date, i.e. Created: Monday, December 17, 2001 6:05:48 PM."Make a Folder names Tiles on your desktop, copy the new tiles into this folder, then use Dem-ex on that folder, then just copy those edited tiles back into your Routes tiles folder Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-17-01, 09:26 PM (EST) 6. "RE: Adding new tiles" Adjusting the ceiling height, which is listed in the instructions for DEM-EX, is essential as the guru who wrote the program was never able to decipher all of the file formats, but that process causes the route editor to complete the process of updating all of the tile information as there is more than just elevations necessary for a finished tile.David. Dec-18-01, 05:23 PM (EST) 7. "RE: Adding new tiles" The only thing you really do NOT want to do is rerun DEMEX over ANY of the tiles of your finished route. It will change them to have the Z elevations of the input file DEMEX used and, there is NO undo, just backups. Use the dummy route method. Create what you want in the dummy route and then just copy the finished route overtop the dummy route to add it, not the dummy onto the finished route.
