Dec-16-01, 07:36 PM (EST) "How to reuse portion of route?" I don't think I have seen an answer to this one. Here is the picture. I just completed all the trackwork for the Kingsport Sub. of CSX. This includes a reasonable facsimile of the Erwin, TN yard, which is pretty complex. I didn't count, but there are probably 50 turnouts, and a bunch of dynamic sections there in. This is the division point between the Kingsport and Blue Ridge subdivisions. The problem.I would like to use this same yard, and perhaps 2 miles of track north of it, at the north end of my rendition of the Blue Ridge Sub. Does anyone have any ideas about how, just this portion, could be copied to a new route? (I'm laying track, all the track, first, and then worrying about scenery, signals, etc. which seem to cause so much grief. I would hate to try to duplicate this yard again.J. H. Sullivan, P.E. Dec-16-01, 08:00 PM (EST) 1. "RE: How to reuse portion of route?" I haven't tried anything like this, but from all I have gathered, it should be possible to copy it from one route to another, but it will be in EXACTLY the same place in the the target that it was in the source. As I haven't tried anything like this, don't quote me on which files, but you will need to copy the relevant tiles and world files to the new route and then have the track database recreated.AS ALWAYS DON'T DO ANYTHING WITHOUT BACKING UP EVERYTHING FIRST.Try it and let us know how it turns out. Dec-16-01, 09:18 PM (EST) 2. "RE: How to reuse portion of route?" I appreciate your reply, but that is part of the problem. Just how would you know which files to copy. Since the tiles are going to be the same, it should not be necessary to copy those, but it would be necessary to copy the world files, but you would not want to copy all of the world files------Backup - by all means. I did not attempt to do any of this until I had a suitable computer (lotsa memory), and a CD burner. When laying the track, I burned a rom every 15 miles, or about 2 or 3 night's work. In between, I copied the stuff over to a scratch back on another disk after each session.J. H. Sullivan, P.E. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-17-01, 00:19 AM (EST) 3. "RE: How to reuse portion of route?" Do something, plant a tree, do anything, in the vicinity of the track that you want to copy. Then look at the time stamps to see which world files were revised. Once you copy it, clear cut the trees. Too bad kuju/ms didn't use a tile numbering sequence similar to what USGS uses where each quad alpha-numeric designation tells exactly where it is. Then you don't have to worry about which files are which. Of course if you have space issues you're outta luck since it does not significantly compress. Instead of not copying world tiles, don't copy textures, shapes, etc.. This saves nearly the same space and can be easily be restored with the same method you used to generate them in the first place.-Andy
