Dec-16-01, 09:40 AM (EST) "US Lower Quadrant Semaphores" I've completed a basic set of LQ semaphores:
1)Distant
2)Home
3)Distant Home
4)InterlockingHere's the distant-home signal indicating the next signal is at stop for the center track.
Message Areas - "US Lower Quadrant Semaphores" – image 1I'm still a novice handling the semaphore scripts and would greatly appreciate help. I'm hoping the several European fans who have done extensive work can help me out. This set works, and available to anyone who wants it.Hank

Dec-16-01, 02:04 PM (EST) 1. "RE: US Lower Quadrant Semaphores" Hi,Can you put some schema's or drawings here? It is difficult for me with all the different names, we use different names, so a picture says thousand words. Dick van den Hoven Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-16-01, 03:43 PM (EST) 3. "RE: US Lower Quadrant Semaphores" Semaphores, especially lower quadrant, have all but disappeared in the US. There may be a few western lines using them. In the east, lines of the Erie Railroad(Erie Lackawanna, Conrail, Norfolk Southern) still had active ones until recently. They may be all gone now.A 'Home' signal is placed at the entrance to a controlled block. The blade may be red or yellow and has an arrow point. Lamps will be red or green. If it is at stop the controlled block ahead is occupied. The train entering may enter upon dispather orders or proceed at restricted speed. If at clear, the block is unoccupird and may be entered at normal speed.A 'distant' signal gives an advance information on the condition of the home signal. If the home signal is clear, the distant signal will be clear. If the home signal is at stop, the distant signal will be approach. This signal does not give block occupancy information. The blade is 'fishtail' shape and is yellow. Lamps will show green or amber. An 'Interlocking signal' will be found at junctions, may have, one, two, or three blades. They are generally red or yellow and square ends. They are almost aways 'stop and stay.' The top and middle head will show red or green indications, top head for the main route, middle head for the secondary route. The bottom head is for the slow speed route, and shows red or amber.I hope this is some help.

Dec-16-01, 03:50 PM (EST) 4. "RE: US Lower Quadrant Semaphores" Hi, Rich
Some western roads, BNSF, SP/UP may still have some, but few. They are all but gone in the east. Use would be for anyone doing a period route. When I get some clarification on scripting, I'll do a set of upper quadrants.I've added instrument cases to the masts since the above picture. Semaphores need them for the blade moving mechanism.
