Dec-16-01, 08:42 AM (EST) "retrometro problems" I am sure my problems with this upgrade of equipment and activities to the metro route are of my own making and ignorance, as usual. The installer seemed to put everything in its place so I must have bits missing that defaults are looking for. When I tried to run MSTS I started to get a lot of the can't find messages such as nll Mikado\nll Mikdado eng., another about Mike ten wagon, n11RS3emrr18\n111RS3emrr18,eng. and probably a dozen more. The program then sent me to the take a ride screen instead of the usual screen with its choices. I tried to run one of the new activities (not too bright considering it looked like every piece of new equipment was missing or missing parts) and of course the program failed. I checked the trainsets and found a few new pieces. I found scattered throuhout the consists a bunch of n11 consists. Could not find a file to uninstall the new files so I had to go the route of picking fleas off a dog. I removed all of the files I could find. MSTS seems to run again. No can't finds appeared at startup although I am sure there are tons of other things that will pop up the next time I run the activity program.
What am I missing here? I have all the ESE parts. Did I need to run some program to make sure all the bits and pieces were in the correct place or accounted for like you often have to do after you install a new route? I would love to run this railroad and all its new stuff. Thanks in advance for any help and patience.

Dec-16-01, 10:24 AM (EST) 1. "RE: retrometro problems to myself" I probably should have put this under activities. I have reloaded the program. This time only the coal and log cars are missing. I dumped the whole file in a folder apart from MSTS to see what was there. I think my download was flawed. I am downloading the file retro again to see if the two missing cars come through. If not, I plan to substitute these cars with something similiar in function. Still, if anyone has insight into what might be going on... I would be glad to hear from someone more intelligent, experienced, and creative when it comes to MSTS than am I.
Thanks,

Dec-16-01, 11:56 AM (EST) 2. "RE: retrometro problems to myself" Heya Joe,You just might have a bad file. Those errors seem a bit sporadic.Just make sure you have all six default routes installed and then install the EMRR route (making sure you select your MSTS install and not the MSTS Routes folder). The install the Retro Metro. The Retro Metro doesn't install over anything but it does require your defaults to be in there proper place. Other than that you shouldn't be having any problems.Hope this helps.Rich Garber Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-16-01, 12:17 PM (EST) 3. "RE: retrometro problems to myself" LAST EDITED ON Dec-16-01 AT 12:26 PM (EST)Thanks Rich, will try. I did download and reinstall the retrometro. I checked and found what seems to be all the parts I need in the trainset files. The coal cars just will not work. The second install made the problem all the worse. The ace files nilcoal1\COAL_01.ace and the 02 and 03 aces just are not available to my program. I am thinking it best to just delete the entire route for now and will if I don't solve the mystery in the next few hours. There are too many other great downloaded routes I have available that I don't use as much as I should. If I don't figure it out today, someday I will.
Thanks again,
JoeIn looking over the list of available routes, I think I may have found the answer to my problem. I have East Metro. The Deluxe is probably what I need to run this retro. I am in the process of downloading that monster size file now. I noticed that it comes with cars. Possibly among those are the coal cars I am missing now.

Dec-16-01, 11:28 PM (EST) 8. "RE: No Retro Problems....It all works!" Rich,
Thanks. Metro Deluxe and the Retro all fit perfectly. I was first impressed by your locomotives' livery. At first I thought I should just enjoy your changes to the route, but I went ahead and installed your retro activities and locomotives. No hitches at all! Even I was able to get a perfect installation. It looks great, and I know what railroad I'll be tooling around on next weekend. Sorry for bothering you. Thanks for the beautiful railroad.

Dec-16-01, 01:53 PM (EST) 6. "RE: retrometro problems to myself" Bodiddly RR is next on the project list. While I'm doing that I plan a retro metro #2 featuring the rest of John Chamber's skinning projects for the Metro. It will probably include 5 more activities and that wraps up the projects for the Metro. I would like to do a Traffic Trains tutorial but I'm curious to see what happens with Dick Van De Hoven's message about signals. Sounds like someone figured out how to make it all work. If that's the case then I won't have to do the tutorial. Do a search on Bodiddly to see pictures of the route. I usually post them here or in the MSTS forum.Rich Garber Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-16-01, 06:24 PM (EST) 7. "RE: retrometro problems to myself" Hey Rich-
I like the MetroRetro. The sounds, trucks, and all. Got a question.
I loaded two of your RS3 consists on my SNAFU Pass route, a single and a 3 engine. They both started out on the end of the train, needing to run in reverse, to pull the cars. Was that intentional? I haven't tried them on the Metro, yet.
BTW! How's the tutorial update coming?
Later,
Hawk

Dec-16-01, 11:53 PM (EST) 9. "RE: retrometro problems to myself" Hawk,I haven't had much of a chance to experiment with the RS3. I think they meant it to run nose forward? John Chambers or John Fowlis, the originator of the RS2/3 would be the best bet to answer this question.Rich Garber
