Dec-12-01, 05:22 PM (EST) "RGE seems to be having "a senior moment"- or is it me?" Okay, I've got a portion of my route laid to my satisfaction and need to go into the RGE to delete unnessesary tiles. Now, when I pull up my route's Quad-tree, the editor shows it way the heck up on the Canadian plains, not in the Columbia River Gorge between Oregon and Washington-USA! I had this same thing happen a month or so ago with the PO&N Quad- and because I don't know where Jim set up his Quadtree, it made no difference. Also, it only shows 24 tiles in a 4x6 pattern( did that on the PO&N too). I know I had waaaay more than that. So, I checked the Quad for Marias. It put the former GN line in the Pacific Ocean! Anyone have any ideas? Is my RGE screwed? Thanks for looking,Tim Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-13-01, 09:53 AM (EST) 1. "RE: RGE seems to be having "a senior moment"- or is it me?" Kinda sounds like it, but you never know. I originally extracted PO&N in the same general area as Marias, thinking like a lot of people in those days that extracting a route in the mountains would give you mountains instead of flat terrain. That was in "The Olden Days" before DEM utilities, of course, so as it turned out an extraction in the Himalayas or the middle of the Gulf of Mexico gave the same flat green golf course.
Funny thing was, I missed - didn't even hit the region Marias was in, I got the one next to it. What's odd about the placement is it looks like it's centered in the next region Northwest;
but it's actually in the upper left corner of the region below and to the right of the one with all the big black lines.

The combination almost sounds like Popeye transferred to the Israeli Navy. I don't know, maybe you could post a screenshot of what you're getting. I add or subtract from the PO&N by clicking in the correct section before "zoom region", and if I don't see blue squares I know I got the wrong one, and go back and get the right one. Since it's in a different section than the one it looks like it's in, I used to miss frequently. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-13-01, 04:28 PM (EST) 4. "RE: RGE seems to be having "a senior moment"- or is it me?" Actually, I think it's having a senior year. Trying again to figure out why I'm getting untiled (white) areas to the east of where I'm working, I created a 1x8 N-S tile pattern along east side what is supposedly the -120th meridian (west end of the tile = -120, a UTM boundary), according to the RGE. I then went into the RE and... Well I'll be dammed, 120 ws running along the east end of tile at the southern end. Running 0 degrees N (RE compass) took me off at about a 10 degree tangent to the east.Well I guess in MSTS east doesn't meet west, at least not north of south.Did it twice in two different newly created folders with exactly the same results, so it ain't me.Richard Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

I have no idea what causes this crap, but, I had it to happen to me when the "Route that wasn't" was put up for download. Everybody wondered where the route was...
I loaded it up in the RGE and the quad was "Marias Pass" but the lat., long. was in Wash. state..... Needless to say, when I posted my findings to this forum, they were proved completely wrong, as they were. DooDoo happens is all I can say. Regards
