Dec-09-01, 03:15 PM (EST) "PO&N v5 beta for signal testing" Rich Garber (you know, that guy with "the other route", I forget what it's called) has posted an unfinished beta of PO&N v5 for me on his website, http://www.edmfamily.com/msts/index.htm . Note that this is an unfinished version, not for the computer inept, for the purpose of testing signal configurations.
The combination I finally came up with gives about a 1 minute advance warning with a yellow when meeting opposing traffic, and altho there is no warning when the switch in front of you changes with overtaking traffic, both switches on the single track section do not change at the same time, giving the player train an escape route if you get caught in that few-second window approaching a converging point.
What I would like feedback on is, can you get caught unawares in a stalemate situation if you are paying attention to signals? And if you play with this in the route editor, can you improve on it or make it work with a lesser number of signals?Again, this is not a finished route. Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

I'm gonna wait for the full version of PO&N v5, I have 3 betas...one is MP 3, the other I'm not saying (grin)Stevens Update: Well...i made the mistake of downloading the new MicroDEM, so I'm at a stand still. I made some changes on how to get Quads, it is quite interesting...a tad more time comsuming, but it works really well. Anyway I can download the older version of MicroDEM???Brian E. Bundridge

Dec-09-01, 08:45 PM (EST) 6. "RE: PO&N v5 beta for signal testing" *press conference* Well.. *cough cough* it appears we have a metro employee guilty of a little industrial espionage. He's being served black coffee instead of with cream as we take any vandalism against the PO&N beta route intolerable. Of course he'll retain his job with pay, don't worry. The problem is the installer. There's a slight bug. Just so iddy biddy... anyway... the solution is easy. In your start menu use the PO&N uninstaller and that will remove all the installed files except for the files copied over by the dos batch file. What I've done is put the zip up on the site so use that instead. I thought this was a final release. This is just a beta release, not a final. So they'll be more po&n 5s coming. No point in putting an installer on for now. When you get the zip just install it. You shouldn't have to recopy the shapes since that was already done.Rich Garber Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-09-01, 10:01 PM (EST) 8. "RE: PO&N v5 beta for signal testing" I'm gonna get the Orkin man after you if you go putting bugs in my route. I got enough already. Anyway, that wasn't me with the trainsheds, I'm not gonna rat on the guy who did it, but you might think about draining some of the water out of lakes and rivers on that new guy's route to see what he's hiding.
Just happened to see this on my way back from Canada with a new - well, let's just call it a new "aquisition" from the CN. (It fell off a truck, honest!)Lonnghairedwizard, did you finally get a copy? You're the only one who's written AI traffic activities for the PO&N so far, so I'm really interested in your feedback on this. I was screwing around with 5 minute spacing instead of 10 minutes on AI traffic, which is OK when you're going the same way, but gets a little too intense when swimming upstream. So far I haven't had any collisions between AI trains, if I delay them for a long time they just keep stacking up in previous blocks, then come by one after the other. If we can get this kind of thing working perfectly, it should make for some really intense activities, you lolligag around with making up the train now and you're gonna pay for it later, no "game over activity ended" for you, chum, you screwed it up in the beginning, now you gotta make up all that time you blew. Casey Jones, take the siding, I'm coming through highballing! Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
