Here you can see I've made banked curving guideway for my maglev as opposed to the straight level section it's connected too.
Another shot of the track. It has a 1000m radius with a 20degree curve, (same as some track sections in the game)
Here you can see the train still travels upright on the banked track. The track's axis in TSM was also rotated the same degree as the rail itself but obviously has no effect on the train.Any suggestions??Texturing of maglev vehicle has not yet been finished due to difficulties with TSM. Hi!I think, it is impossible to make trains tilt, because the trains are aligned on top of the curves. they don't care which radius the curve has. I did not found any "tilt-angle", which could help, to solve that problem.Momocat Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-06-01, 05:45 AM (EST) 2. "RE: Can you make trains tilt to banked track???" As I asked before, can the "body" of the locomotive be animated to roll proportional to the positions of the "Bogies" which are turned by MSTS. Canvas3d had some sort of skeletal system for its 3d animation, whats needed is to connect the "bogies" to swivel the "body" even if the bogies themselves are invisible, MTST will animate them to turn. I really needs an expert on this though as theres little documentation on this at the moment.Terry Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-06-01, 07:34 AM (EST) 3. "RE: Can you make trains tilt to banked track???" More thoughts on this. An animated train consists of the following groupings "body" -> "bogies" -> "wheels" as the train goes around the curve MSTS rotates the bogies around their pivot points, and the wheels around theirs. Just suppose we build a train as follows:-Have an invisible 'body' part just enought to be recognised as a shape but linked to two 'bogies'. the 'bogie' parts would look like the two half bodies of the maglev. The rotational axis of the bogies would be set to be horizontal along the trains axis rather than vertical but still connected to the body. MSTS would care nothing about what these shapes look like, it would just rotate the 'bogie' with respect to the 'body' as it hit a curve, this would cause the 'bogie' to lean rather than turn as the axis is horizontal not vertical and the 'bogies' would lean on curves! The invisible Body remaining upright.Entirely a theory at the moment, when some more instructions appear for animations in TS Modeller I'll give it a go.Terry Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-07-01, 00:39 AM (EST) 4. "RE: Can you make trains tilt to banked track???" All too confusing for me. I can't even get the texturing finished because of its shape. Apart from what is obvious, this train has been given no invisible bogies or animated parts at all. The body follows the curves on it's own. I have no idea where to start with bogies, fake bodies or animation at this time.TSM can only do so much at this time too, even so, It can't do more than the game was programmed to understand. I've had 3DS Max for quite a while now and got nowhere but TSM for only 3 days before this train was built, so it's a godsend for newbie 3d artists. I'll work on texturing the guideway and try to get a track pack available. Anyone who wants to attempt the train, ask me for it's TrainSimModeler.dst file and have a go!All your thoughts, suggestions and help is much appreciated. Dec-07-01, 03:37 AM (EST) 5. "RE: Can you make trains tilt to banked track???" Yes its very complicated, can I make a suggestion? Why don't you release this with flat track for now after all its a very good looking train and youve done a great deal of work. I for one would still like the flat version. I will try my experiments with the bogies in a test train I will make myself. If it turns out to lean in any direction I will get back to you, its just I have to read about the constuction of bogied trains and there is little other than the train artisan stuff and thats not for TSM. I was hoping someone who has experience with making trains would offer advice but no ones come forward. If I dont get anywhere then I'll post some questions.I for one would like to say well done! there may be a couple of nitpickers but its a really unique train. I hope to use it some day.Terry Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
