yardmarker 7bigfact1 7fact5 7wareh1 7wareh2 7wareh3 us2woodhouse tree4 tree3Also missing is the use2beltontown.ace file.Does anyone know where I can get these from? I have used EZSTUFF3 to no advantage.Brian Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-03-01, 08:39 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Illinois Central Route Problem" LAST EDITED ON Dec-03-01 AT 08:41 PM (EST)Brian; They are in two places. The ones beginning with a 7 are in the shape and texture folders of version 0.5. I believe all the others are in the zip by Jim Stevens. It's a zip in the main zip titled sd_files.zip. If that doesn't get them all, then do a search of the folders in trainsimulator and they are there. Specifically the belltown one. Hope that helps. These are on the main install and would have gotten into the merge folder from Jim's proces; us1deer platform workman us2woodhouse
These are in version 0.5; yardmarker 7bigfact1 7fact5 7wareh1 7wareh2 7wareh3
These are in Jim's zip; tree4 tree3marker0 marker1 marker2Also missing is the use2beltontown.ace file.

Dec-03-01, 11:10 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Illinois Central Route Problem" David,Thanks for the info. I have been able to locate the "7" series files but nothing else. The sd_files.zip of Jim Stevens is not a part of any IC file I have found (I have 6 of them correct?) and the us2beltontown.ace file still manages to elude me along with the rest. Do you by any chance know the names of the zip files that will give me those that I am missing?Cheers

Dec-04-01, 01:54 AM (EST) 3. "RE: Illinois Central Route Problem" To Brian and allI whipped together a little zip file for all who need
the above missing files. If you have MSTS, and Davids
IC route installed to the default directory structure,
then with Winzip, you should just be able to unzip to
your ( C: ), or whatever is your main drive letter, and
that should do it.If there are any other files that need to be added, let
me know and I will add them to the zip file.....Here's the link:http://www.3d-perfection.com/IC_Files/IC_Files.zipHope this works, Davids IC route is one nobody should
be without.... Thanks David....Patrick Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-04-01, 08:50 AM (EST) 4. "RE: Illinois Central Route Problem" Brian;I see Patrick to care of you. In version 0.1 readme there is a link to post here by Jim Stevens. That post contains a link to a file that contains the files you mentioned. I would go get it and keep it as reference in case something happens later.David Klemm

Dec-04-01, 11:53 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Illinois Central Route Problem" Patrick, Thanks for putting together the IC file. David just sent me the route by CD yesterday, and I am having a gas. Now all we need is an IC speedster to travel the route. just went from MT. Zion to Maroa and it was a kick to recognize landmarks along the way (I used to work in Decatur and would train watch on my lunch hour). David thanks again for a great project.JD Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-05-01, 04:43 AM (EST) 6. "RE: Illinois Central Route Problem" David,Having applied the zip file as required, I now cannot find IC in the list of available routes within MSTS (it does show up in the route editor though). I am not having a good time here. I am now looking for expert advice on what could be wrong and how I can go about fixing it. Do you have any ideas?Cheers

Dec-05-01, 09:35 AM (EST) 7. "RE: Illinois Central Route Problem" Bob;First applied which zip? The one with the missing files? That shouldn't have caused the route to disappear. A route will usually disappear if the explore path is broke. Open up the activity editor, then file/open double click on IC folder, then activity folder then illinoiscentral.act file. Does it show a broken path? If so click the edit button in the player service area. Then in the new window that pops up, click edit for the path. Now right click and choose change direction. Window disappears. Right click again and choose change direction, this puts it back in the same direction. Exit out saving along the way as asked by MSTS. The route should now be visible.Based on another email I got at home, I have a question. Did you come across the missing 7 files while driving the train or in the route editor? My guess is in RE. I have many objects in the ref file not used yet in the route, so I haven't sent the custom files out with an update. Did this to save space.

Dec-06-01, 01:07 AM (EST) 8. "RE: Illinois Central Route Problem" David,The zip file I was referring to was Patrick's one with all the files I was missing. I agree with you that the simple addition of these files should not have knocked out IC from the route selection which is why I was/am wondering whether anything else is amiss.I have followed your instructions to try and fix the broken path (I think there is one) and I can get to the point of opening the illinoiscentral.act file at which time I get "Service Test David IC2, path "Explore IC2", setup afterload failed" message. It then takes 2-3 attempts to close this error message before I can proceed with your instructions.I get to the point where you say "click edit for the path" OK but from that point on I cannot get a response from anything on the screen with a right click. I am assuming that I should be right clicking in the box that opens to edit the path.Is it possible to manually enter the path into this box and if so maybe I should try that. Perhaps you could let me know what should be appearing in the path.As for the "7" files, I found them in one of the route zip files and extracted them - I am assuming that the original ones didn't go across the first time.
MSTS sure seems to be inefficient as far as files are concerned. I would have thought that there would be a database for each item type with route designs accessing them much as the track is accessed from the global folder. The idea of having the same file appear in maybe a dozen or so routes sure seems like a waste of space to me when you consider the hundreds and thousands of files used to make up just one route.Oh well I guess ours is not to reason why etc etc.Cheers,

Dec-06-01, 08:54 AM (EST) 9. "RE: Illinois Central Route Problem" LAST EDITED ON Dec-06-01 AT 09:02 AM (EST)Bob;One of the early comments and debates was around what you suggest. Everything should have been in one folder for all routes to use. Kind of like the alaising being down with cabs and sounds.I'll go to MSTS and change my start point back to Clinton and send you the pat, act, and service files to replace yours and get you back up running. I was messing around with testing the route in all seasons and conditions as I knew winter snow had some missing textures. I'll include those in the next release. Here are the 3 files. See if this fixes things for you.http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/User_files/3c0f7a7964c26ea0.zip David Klemm

Dec-09-01, 05:27 PM (EST) 10. "RE: Illinois Central Route Problem" David,Thanks for the files. I applied them but there was no improvement in the problem at all. In the meantime I have been having problems with my computer caused (I think) by WinXP and I am in the process of removing that system and going back to WinMe. Unfortunately this is going to take a couple of days but in an effort to solve my problem I will instal a clean copy of MSTS and then the IC route and see what happens. My problems may not have stemmed from XP they could very well have come from me playing around trying to fix things or perhaps a conflict somewhere but unfortunately I do not have the technical nouse to know for sure.I will let you know what happens. Many thanks for your patience with me on this.Cheers

Dec-10-01, 02:39 AM (EST) 11. "RE: Illinois Central Route Problem" David,Don't look now but I think I'm starting to get somewhere. MSTS now has its own 20gb drive on which I have done a clean instal plus added only your IC files. The route now lists in MSTS however when I go to fire it up it bombs out saying there is no Terrain.ace file.I would appreciate your comments.Cheers

Dec-10-01, 08:55 AM (EST) 12. "RE: Illinois Central Route Problem" LAST EDITED ON Dec-10-01 AT 09:47 AM (EST)Bob;While bizarre it is an easy fix. Copy that file from trainsimulator\template\terrtex folder to illinoiscentral\terrtex folder and copy the same file name from trainsimulator\template\terrtex\snow to illinoiscentral\terrtex\snow.That should do it.BTW, that step is in the readme for version .1! I know how it is though when doing reinstalls, it's done from memory. Really hope this does it for you. Also, Jak mentioned to you about his route control program and the savings in hard disk space. Is next program will be even greater in my eyes. It will allow route designers to easily pack up their routes! From what I understand it will pack up non standard stuff.David Klemm

Dec-11-01, 05:43 PM (EST) 15. "RE: Illinois Central Route Problem" Hi David,Well we're starting to get there. I now am able to at least load the route but cannot work it. The train starts out OK and gets almost to the final left-hand "dogleg" to leave the marshalling yards (in real world terms about 200 metres) when I get some sort of error message hidden under the MSTS screen and my computer freezes. Bugga. I have a feeling that it is looking for a file that is not there and I can't use alt+tab or anything else to find out what.In desperation I ran Stuffit (which I have been recently mouthing off against) but to no avail. I am now stumped.I will go back through the readme's to see if I've missed copying a file from somewhere.Cheers
