Dec-03-01, 04:04 PM (EST) "MSTS signal Problem (Please help!)" Hi there,
I’ve just been messing around putting signals roughly into my unfinished (Scenic wise, all the track is there) route, and using explore route to get the feel of them.
There’s a problem though!
In my route, you have to leave some carriages in a loop, while the loco ‘runs-round’ the train. There are junction signals protecting the entrances to both ends of the loop. So when you leave the train in the loop, the engine can’t couple back on, as the signal will now not clear! As the carriages are in the way!
How can I overcome this? Can you press TAB and get permission to pass the danger signal? Can you set this in the activity editor?
In real life a ‘calling on signal’ will be cleared (This is a small signal telling the driver he can pass the main signal at danger, but there is a train blocking his way, to proceed slowly!)
I don’t mind if the calling on signal cannot be in MSTS, but I need a way of passing the signal at danger without the game ending, or giving me a penalty for going too fast (Over 0mph!)
So basically, I want a way of passing a danger signal, even when there is another train past the signal!! Please help!, as this is crucial to my route!!!!
Any ideas? (And no, I can’t get rid of the signal altogether, it MUST be there!)Thanks in advance,
Mike.

Dec-03-01, 04:29 PM (EST) 1. "RE: MSTS signal Problem (Please help!)" Mike, here's what I did. I put a passing siding within a siding. Wish I had a picture to show you. But if you got the EMRR (and why don't you!!!??? Just kidding... )take a look at Oil City and Metro City. I used to have it setup just like you probably have yours. But, what I learned and as ole Jimbo has been carrying on about here lately.. is Kuju seemed to have the idea all we would ever want to do is drive a train from point A to point B. But there is a solution. Bracket your regular tracks with your automatic switches. Then add switchability to the inside part of the bracket. This way you never have to breach the signal go do your end around. Do this and you'll have the best of both worlds.AAannddddDDDDD... time to plug my book... if yo go to www.trainsimulatorworld.com you can get my activity tutorial which covers this and alot more!See if that don't help. Dec-03-01, 05:42 PM (EST) 2. "RE: MSTS signal Problem (Please help!)" Have you tried using the tab key to ask for permission to pass?I used to have absolute signals protecting all sidings on my route project before I removed them from non-passing sidings because they were not prototypical (and because they were a pain in the rear as well).I would have a similar situation when I wanted to pickup cars at a siding. I would stop at the reverse point, and prepare to back into the siding, but the signal would show red (because of the cars sitting on the siding.) However, all I had to do was press "tab", and I would get permission to pass (at a restricted speed) every time. Now this was in an activity where my path clearly went onto the siding. I'm not sure that this would work in explore mode.It sounded like you hadn't tried an activity yet, but were just trying thing out in explore mode. In explore mode, you can pass the signals with impunity, so it doesn't matter (except for realism). It might be worth making a simple activity to try it out. Maybe you don't really have a problem at all. Steve

Dec-04-01, 04:34 PM (EST) 3. "RE: MSTS signal Problem (Please help!)" Thanks for the replies everyone, but i've found a..SOLUTION!!!!!!!
I’ve finally found an EASY way of making a signal clear, even though there are wagons/coaches in a siding within the signals block, and the points are set for the siding, or even about 2 metres+ behind a signal!
I found, in the lower quadrant semaphore signals pack I downloaded, a disc (Shunting/switching signal). A first I thought it would behave like a normal signal.
No! It can be passed at danger, with no penalty, and without hitting TAB, at a maximum speed of 15mph.. PERFECT!
So I put a disc right behind the main signal, and put it underground so you can’t see it. So when the block behind the disc is occupied, it goes to danger (But you can’t see it).
So now, the small block (about 1 meter!) between the disc and main signal is clear, so the main signal clears! The effect is superb, very easy to do, and just what I was looking for.
Mike.
