Got the DEM Data I need. Put all 4 zipped (SDTS.TAR.GZ) files into a folder on C drive called DEM Data 1.
I downloaded the proper programs from http:\\sd40.topcities.com
The version numbers are identical to what is specified in the Tutorial.
I let Microdem install itself to the default location (C\Program Files\Microdem-Terra Base II). I then unzipped XYZ Merge. Cut it from C:\unzipped, and pasted it into the Microdem main folder.
When I ran XYZ Merge, I got this:
What have I done wrong?
I was doing pretty good there for a while. Now I'm stuck.
Help!!!!!

Never mind. I got it to work. Not sure how, but my backyard is in the Route Editor, hills and all. Of course, I'm still trying to find my backyard, but I've got a few maps to help me on that.
This is great. Not that diffucult, and the finished project is gorgeous.
Thanks Rich and Lawrence.
Gotta go get dome DEM.
Later,
Hawk

I'm not sure.
I use "EndItAll" to shut down the unnecessary programs. I noticed one in the list. Something about running a DLL as an app.
I protected it so it wouldn't shut down, rebooted, tried it twice, still the same thing.
I then noticed the icon for my GForce video card was gone from my systray.
I rebooted, left the DLL thing active. My second attempt was successful, and beautiful.
Sometimes, it still does the same thing, but for the most part, I love it.
I started with the CSX line that runs just behind my house.
It was an interesting experiance, trying to get my bearings, but I think I finally found my house.
When I started this DEM stuff, I never gave a thought of the finished product.
What I mean is, no landmarks, no trees, no water, no nothing, but green, beautiful, rolling hills and mountains.
With the use of TopoZone, I finally got my bearings and started laying track.
One thing I've noticed, the Lat. and Lon. coordinates from the sim don't seem to quite match real world. It appears to be about a 2 or 3 hundred foot difference. Is that me?
Anyway, if other folks read this, and have an interest in the DEM stuff, contact Rich Garber, the creator of the East Metro RR.
He's got an excellent tutorial.
