Dec-02-01, 03:12 AM (EST) "DEM accuracy/shifting" I recently tried importing dem data into a route. Worked surprising well for a first time go. Just to scope out the accuracy, I set up some markers based on lon/lat data from an actual BN right-of-way map for the area. I discovered that a few obvious landmarks were considerably off, a nearly flat valley between 2 high hills where a grade crossing exists, and a curve in the tracks bordered by a ridge to the west and a sharp ox-bow in the river to the east for example. The landscape features were easily located and identifiable in the route editor, but both slightly more than a mile 'east' of where the markers were placed. I backed up and started over, regenerating the tiles and dem data from scratch. Again there was a shift in the few points I checked, this time a slightly greater amount. Is this a common effect? And if so, is there a way of compensating for generated landscape versus actual coordinates? It's also totally possible that I'm hosing something up myself along the way. ;) Any comments or input is apprecated! Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-03-01, 00:21 AM (EST) 1. "RE: DEM accuracy/shifting" I discovered this same phenomenon. Train-sim uses Metric latitude and longitudes, we normally use English style ones. They are close enough to get you on the map, but different enough to confuse the bejeebers out of you. Try using a converter to convert the lat-lon coordinates from the standard "hour, minute, second" format into the Metric decimal format.Rob Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
