Dec-01-01, 05:02 PM (EST) "Just a thought." I know this is going to sound crazy, BUT, is there the possibility of changing water levels, seasonaly? Such as damed lakes.
Crazy thought, huh?
In my limited knowledge, I can't see it happening. Just thought somebody else might have the knowledge.
Later,
Hawk

Dec-01-01, 05:14 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Just a thought." I would just be happy if I could have water at more than one level on one tile, it's crazy that all of the water on one tile has to be flat...Rob Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-01-01, 05:31 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Just a thought." Unfortunatly, it seems we have to build our routes around this limitation.
It's ok on fantasy routes, but I can see it as a problem on real world routes.
You just have to make sure that you set up different water levels on the tile border.
Let's see. I think I've got a screenshot.Message Areas - "Just a thought." – image 1 You can't see it in this shot, but the dams were built right on the tile border.
You should be able to see the different water levels.
Hope this helps.

Dec-01-01, 06:17 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Just a thought." This is a serious limiting factor, I found out to my dismay. I'm building a line that follows a creek down a 2% grade. I didn't get very far when I came up against this wall. I'd have to make the creek 1000 feet deep on the plateau where it meets the track to equal the heighth of the Columbia river 40 miles away, or the track gets flooded 100meters down-stream. This of course is unacceptable. It's enough to make me re-think my route, - make it during a drought? feasable enough, I suppose.Tim Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-02-01, 01:37 AM (EST) 5. "RE: Just a thought." I don't think seasonally is in the cards, since the route is not alterable by the sim. I faked flooding and deep snow by changing things in the route editor for the screenshots, but the limitations of the game itself make it impossible to do it for real. Here's the gag shots;http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID3/4043.htmlAs far as slanting water, that can be done by entering different values in the fields for each corner, like NW corner 200, NE corner 200, SW corner -100, SE corner -100.Message Areas - "Just a thought." – image 2 Toggle water on, use some road sections elevated to about the same angle as the water table, up and down depending on how uneven you want your banks;Message Areas - "Just a thought." – image 3 After sculpting the terrain, add bridges and track and so forth.Message Areas - "Just a thought." – image 4 Uh-oh, it's dripping out of the monitor. Gotta go. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-02-01, 06:51 AM (EST) 6. "RE: Just a thought." I didn't think it was possible, but I thought I'd throw the thought out and see what came out of it.
BTW! Jim-
As stated in one of the posts under the link you supplied:

Dec-02-01, 06:58 AM (EST) 7. "RE: Just a thought." You could always create your own water objects that go up and down how you need them to.Guess if you don't have a 3d program like tsm/3dcanvas/3dsm you can't really do that though.

I've been trying that but I can't seem to get the water to look like the "default" water. I use the same ace-files but I still have to figure which material-type to use...
Has anyone figured that one out? (Or perhaps I should take this question yo the skinning-forum...)Message Areas - "Just a thought." – image 6 Nalle Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-02-01, 12:02 PM (EST) 10. "RE: Just a thought." Might do just that...There ain't many places along my route where the water lines up where I want it. I either get dry land or a huge lake instead of this nice little river in the bottom of the canyon....Message Areas - "Just a thought." – image 8 Nalle Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-02-01, 03:27 PM (EST) 11. "RE: Just a thought." Just make a large rectangle, and colour it in blue - okay it won't look like MSTS water, but it will be okay if you cannot sculpt the real water. My latest river looks okay as it is I think (I'll post a pic. on my website next w'end).Message Areas - "Just a thought." – image 9

Dec-02-01, 11:32 PM (EST) 12. "RE: Just a thought." Woudln't, and I'm sure this was discussed before and perhaps the lack of an ace compression tool made it untennable, it be possible to just make a transfer out of a water texture? It wouldn't look quite right (flowing, forthing, et all and making it animated would kill framerates probably) But it would work, no?
It'd be so much easier if they had just used tga textures like everyone else... -Andy
