Nov-29-01, 08:22 PM (EST) "Static Train Objects" You can easily create static objects from the MSTS rolling stock for stationary details that give added dimension to the game when in the Explore mode. They can be placed on sidings, in the background, or even made into train wrecks. They can be raised/lowered or rotated to any angle. Here are some samples:
Here's the procedure:Open the folder under Trainsets for the object(s) you want use. Copy the *.s and *.sd files to the Shapes folder of the route want to add them to.Copy the *.ace files to the desired route's Textures folderNow the trick - Edit the *.ref file for the route to add the items to the reference file so they will become active. Be sure to spell the names for the files exactly as they appear in the original Trainset folder.I created a "<Static_Trains>" category for them so they appear in their own category in the editor Add Objects selection window. Here's how the entry should look for the GP-38.Static (
FileName ( GP38.s )
Shadow ( DYNAMIC )
Class ( "Static_Trains" )
Align ( none )
Description ( GP38-2 )
)Be sure to get the parentheses correct or it won't work. You can convert any or all. It has no effect whatever on the operation of the drivable engines and rolling stock. Since they are static objects, if they are placed on track they will not be recognized as regular rolling stock. They will not activate signals nor will they couple to real trains in the game, but they do give some additional interest in Explore mode.Bill
