May have to rebuild vehicles as textures would not apply correctly. Also have to add texture and shadows to guideway. The maglev is coming people!!! Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Nov-29-01, 05:33 PM (EST) 2. "RE: MAGLEV TRANSRAPID 07 - FIRST SPY PHOTOS" TSM is very easy to use, just start with the exercises included and you'll be on your way in no time. I had to individually move almost every single vertice point making up the polygons for the nose of the thing. Not sure yet if TSM offers a better way.* Also a thanks goes to all those who assisted with my questions along the way. This thing would not have made it this far without you and I may have to call upon you again. * Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

I am simply trying to get the LTV Route finsished first before moving on to projects like this ojne we had put on the shelf for the time being.Mark Branscum Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Nov-30-01, 07:05 AM (EST) 10. "RE: Actually yours are second..." Of course it's not a race. I didn't mean to take the wind out of anyone's sails with the above pics, but I'll agree that my post was poor in form. My humble apologies. As for when the (3DTrains) pics first appeared, I posted them here (and on the MS Train Sim Fan Site) back in July. They were a test of theories we had on track building, and then Mark went and made a buncha' models. Cheers!

The ones on your shelf are spectacular, I haven't seen any going around corners yet, how does that look? or is the german maglev just straight lines? I wonder how you can do a transverser? Gosh theres so much new ideas coming up that I'm never going to get round to a route Ce la vie, who cares if the editors not to good look what everyones doing now they're discovering what the train sim can be fooled into doing.TerryCurrently building a spacecraft! Nov-30-01, 11:31 AM (EST) 13. "Transrapid" The Transrapid can do curves as well, of course!!! However, I wonder how large the curve radius would actually have to be for a maglev...probably as wide as an aircraft carrier's turning radius ! About switches and the like I do not know either, but AFAIK it IS possible to have switches on maglev routes. I think it was the Japanese who had built an experimental maglev system as well. There the "trains" would run in a trough-shaped roadbed with fairly high and thick side "guide" walls, and I do remember they had switches there.

Nov-30-01, 02:17 PM (EST) 16. "RE: Transrapid" ...and here's the Transrapid site:http://www.transrapid.de/en/index.html(link to the English version)
This is how they designed line switches for their maglev system:Message Areas - "MAGLEV TRANSRAPID 07 - FIRST SPY PHOTOS" – image 11From the description I gather that in fact the guideway portion consists of flexible materials on a switch. The switch "tongue" section is suspended on a number of electrically driven trolleys, which quite literally bend the track to precisely meet the end of the other "tongue" or the "siding". Interesting, I was wondering myself how they would switch tracks on the Transrapid.Hmmm...but how could that bending track section be realized for TS?

Nov-30-01, 03:53 PM (EST) 17. "RE: Transrapid" At this stage I have not made a curved guideway section. I do not think TS Modeler allows a straight object to conform to a designated curve. Interesting, how are we going to build curved platforms and stuff? Just hope I'm wrong but couldn't find any way to do it.Cant wait for a TSM upgrade, hope there'll be one.ps, anyone good at texturing? I'm ready to do the maglev vehicle now and I've never textured before. Need some steps.Beadyboy Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Terry, absolutely wouldnt think of knocking Him.
My post were not toward that intent. His model in fact is a great Model, He did a great Job, the front of the model is what I found the most challenging myself, for His first with TSM I am impressed. I was simply sharring what I had done too.
In fact when He gets it done I am looking forward to seeing it along with mine one day passing each other as well as others. Mark Branscum

Dec-02-01, 04:32 PM (EST) 21. "RE: Actually yours are second..." Hi Marc, didn't mean it too seriously about the race but he has done well with the shape and the track sections. I finally got TSM myself, thanks for the recommendation that I wait as I downloaded a demo version of Canvas 3d and found it very cumbersome. I wish that there were more tutorials with TSM though as I wouldnt know how to to such complicated curves like your two models have and would love to know how to do the animations for valve gear and pantographs. Is there any source for this I wonder?I thought that that German Maglev Train did turn gradularily, and wondered if it had transversers as points. Where is the real one anyway? I only have 3 more weeks in Germany then I back in England, wonder if its near Frankfurt.Terry StormontCyberstorm Ltd Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-02-01, 11:47 PM (EST) 22. "RE: Actually yours are second..." The real Maglev is at the Test Facility at Emsland, if you know where that is. I don't, I'm Australian. They take passengers for trial runs every now and then too. Maglevs do use points similar in shape to normal rail too, except the whole track section (about 130M long) bends across to meet the alternative route. Take a good look at this site, plenty of photos and info.

Dec-03-01, 01:13 PM (EST) 23. "RE: MAGLEV TRANSRAPID 07 - NEW PHOTO" Hi!Is there a way to build sloped curves? On the picture below you see what I mean:
Message Areas - "MAGLEV TRANSRAPID 07 - FIRST SPY PHOTOS" – image 13
I think, It will be a "bit" unreal, when you drive at 500 kph through a flat curve, because you need the slope to compensate the g-forces.Momocat Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-03-01, 01:36 PM (EST) 24. "RE: MAGLEV TRANSRAPID 07 - NEW PHOTO" I know that when you build a locomotive in 3d you have different parts for the bogies, wheels etc and the curve on the track causes MSTS to animate them, Is there a way to make the body tilt over on the curve? by linking it with the turn of the bogies? Im not a 3D animator so I dont know about advanced stuff like that. How about you train builders?Terry Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
