Nov-26-01, 05:06 AM (EST) 1. "RE: How do I import object into game as a "Track Section?"" There may be a bug in TSM that affects 3D models that have their object axis placed at one end such as track sections and platforms. The 3D models disappear as you move around the "scene" in Route Editor. I can create new track sections using 3D Canvas Pro and TurboCAD Pro. Here are the steps:1. Create new track section in TurboCAD.
2. Place object axis at one end of new track section.
3. Export new track section to 3DS file.
4. Import 3DS file into blank scene in 3D Canvas Pro.
5. Apply textures to new track section.
6. Export new track section to MSTS shape file.
7. Copy the new track section to "Utils\Fedit" folder.
8. Convert text file to binary file using FFEDITC_UNICODE program.
9. Copy the new track section to "Global\Shapes" folder.
10. Copy texture files to "Utils" folder.
11. Convert texture files to ACE files using MAKEACE program.
12. Copy ACE files to "route\Textures" folder.
13. Make a copy of SD file and rename it.
14. In WordPad, edit the SD file.
15. In Route Editor, select new track section from object browser and place it at end of other track section.I can create curved and straight track sections. I couldn't create new track switches. Jeffrey. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Nov-26-01, 06:17 PM (EST) 3. "RE: How do I import object into game as a "Track Section?"" It should be easy to texture a straight track section but texturing a curved track section is hard because when you create a curved track section in 3D CAD program or 3D modeler, the program doesn't create smooth curves. it creates "curves" with short straight edges. Take a look at bottom of real curved steel beam bridges and see what I mean. Texturing a track switch? Forget about it! Even Kuju couldn't texture track switches properly. Load a track switch such as A1TPNT10DLFT into the Route Editor, place it on the "scene", and zoom into the end of the track switch where the track splits into two paths. You will see how poorly Kuju texture track switches. Jeffrey. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

I just had a major problem with 3D Canvas crashing the system and so tried to use TS Modeler. The track section is a monorail as opposed to standard rail.I thought I might have to edit the tsection.dat file for the game to recognise the track section. That looked too confusing.Would you have the correct dimensions for the end of a standard track section? If I can get it to work, there'll be screenshots on their way and a download. Thanks again. Nov-26-01, 08:56 PM (EST) 5. "RE: How do I import object into game as a "Track Section?"" The width of a standard track section is 4.985 meters wide and the object axis is at the center at the end which is half the width of a track section. If you are using other programs to create new track sections before importing them into 3D Canvas Pro, set the other program's drawing units to English, not Metric and use metric measurements, not english measurements because 3D Canvas Pro automatically converts the measurement systems. Before exporting the new track section to 3DS file, move the object axis to center of track section at one end. Don't use TSM to create new track sections yet because of a bug in the program. Nov-26-01, 11:09 PM (EST) 6. "RE: How do I import object into game as a "Track Section?"" Thankyou for this information. It has been of great assistance. Only problem I have is of completely rebuilding the track section in 3d canvas, and risking another crash.Beady Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
