Nov-21-01, 08:14 PM (EST) "Easy ll2utm usage" Here is a way to add a contextual command to the Windows explorer shell to convert an XYZ Lat-Lon file to UTM using ll2utm.exe, without typing anything in a command shell...Here's how (win2k only, but it should be possible to achieve the same on NT):-assuming ll2utm.exe is in H:\tools, create (with notepad) a text file named ll2utm.bat that contains just one line as follows:H:\tools\ll2utm.exe -d < %1 > %1.utmOf course, replace H:\tools with the actual location of ll2utm.exe-In the Windows Explorer, select Tools->Folder Options->File Types
-click New
-In the 'Create new extension' dialog, type 'XYZ' as file extension, click OK
-Click Advanced
-In the 'Edit file type' dialog, type 'XYZ Elevation file' in the first field
-Click New...
-In the 'New action' dialog, type 'Convert to UTM' in the first field, type H:\tools\ll2utm.bat "%1" in the second field, click OK
-Close the 'Edit file type' dialog by clicking OK
-Close the 'Folder Options' dialog by clicking OKNow, when you have a file with extension .XYZ (supposedly a Lat-Lon XYZ file), you will have an extra option in its contextual (right-click) menu named "Convert to UTM". Selecting this option will call ll2utm.exe with the correct options, and generate the converted file as myfile.xyz.utm (assuming the original file was myfile.xyz)I haven't been able to achieve the same under Win98, due to the lack of support for IO redirection in batch files, but I'd be glad to know if someone has.

Nov-22-01, 07:02 AM (EST) 2. "RE: Easy ll2utm usage" Oh yes, ll2utm is a program that converts an XYZ elevation file with coordinates expressed in latitude and longitude, to a file with the same data, but where coordinates are expressed in the UTM system.ll2utm is useful because DemEx will only accept elevation files in UTM, while the available elevation data is usually in Lat-lon.The program can be found there: http://www2.chem.elte.hu/gigant_club/msts/For more information, read this post: http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID6/1930.html Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Nov-25-01, 01:22 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Easy ll2utm usage" hi again ,I've got a problem with it under Windows Millenium :
Windows Eplorer refuse to record the " ll2utm.bat "
adress ( like ' H:\tools\ll2utm.bat "%1" ' ) in the
second field of the 'New action' dialog line !!! ,
so the contextual command using ll2utm.exe doesn't
work ! What must I do to make it work fine ?I read the " techdocs " too , about " How to Create
Marker Files " , but I don't understand how to do them !
I need to know for starting my French line , Please !Thank you Olivier , like to read you latter when
you'll have time to answer me . Bye ! . " Patvfr " .
