Nov-20-01, 09:23 AM (EST) "Sound Source Gizmos ??? PO&N Waterfall" Since there is no sound forum, I've posted this in Loco design too. The sound source group in the route editor, place objects thing, are somewhat usefull, but mostly screwed up big time. Looking at the ssource files, many are set far too low a volume to ever hear. A few have OK bird sounds and crickets, the raven honk is overwhelming at 1500 feet away!
I've managed to make a great waterfall sound to go with the PO&N waterfall, and replaced the sound file obj_h20feat3.wav. The sound source sms is watr_l_r. The roar of the falls almost drowns out the engine as you pass!I'd like to make new sound sources, including flange biting for curves, seagulls and beach waves, etc. I've tried, but if I make a new set of lines in the ssource section and the new sms file, I get a can not find ref file # ... (it's the last file line 4400 or so). It is looking for a ref file, but I can't seem to find any ref files that refer to any other of the ssource files.Any suggestions? other wise, I'll end up changing a bunch of the existing ones that are useless anyway, but renaming might be a problem!Steve

Well, I dunno, haven't played with sound regions that much, I'm not really sure that it's necessary to hack the ref file at all, I always thought the sound references were in the ssource.dat file. Again, you being the trailblazer here, you're probably gonna have to experiment, you might need to hack both files, but my money would be on ssource.dat as the primary sound reference. Nov-24-01, 02:33 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Sound Source Gizmos ??? PO&N Waterfall" Our clever PO&N creator used the JP2wier2 at the seam between two tiles with water level set differently. I repainted the ace file to make it look more like water, and have changed it some since then. Using various things from the clutter group, I've added different rocks (sawdust pile and oe brick pile) These only show up with the objects slider to 9, if I remember right. Also put some vegetation on the rocks and a few seagulls!Steve Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

PO&N Waterfall" Here's the original thread when I first saw the potential of the wier:http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID6/2074.htmlFunny thing tho, Steve, I hacked the bottom water texture to make the roof of the coal mine black instead of brown, and I could have sworn that the top of the water didn't change, but some of the screenshots I've seen of other people trying this idea the color of the wier don't quite match up with the top of the water. Possibly making the opaque bottom layer black instead of brown made the water a little greener on the PO&N or something. Reskinning the wier would probably work too, altho it would be nice to have an object that didn't have such regular steps to it. Did you ever figure out the sound thingie?
