Nov-18-01, 11:16 PM (EST) "convert3 program and markers" Apparently the rail100k.zip file is a lot more accurate than the file within convert3.. I tttried to convert the shape file with a DOS utility I found but, it refuses to use it.. The raildata.mif within convert3 is the same as looking at Delorme's maps, the rails are in the wrong place and look like the ones in the maps.. Anyone have any idea on how to get the shape file converted so the marker program will use it? Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

"RE: convert3 program and markers" The rails don't seem to be in the wrong Places, the reason I say this is if I go into Streets and Maps 2001, and use the Location finder for somewhat Accurate stations it's on the nose every time... Nov-20-01, 04:08 AM (EST) 6. "RE: convert3 program and markers" From my experience so far, the most accurate files from <www.gisdatadepot.com> seems to come from County DLG files that are available for each 7.5 minute quad. Living here in Cook County (Chicago) Illinois, most of the quads that make up the county (about 30) have transportation files for each quad. I compared those files with TIGER files that are also available for each quad. By visual comparison, the DLG files have much more detail about rail lines within the quad. TIGER files seem to be the basis for rail line information on at least some mapping programs. I have a locally produced shareware program I bought at a local swapmeet several years ago called Precision Mapping 2.0. TIGER output appears to follow exactly what the map shows for the area. The Blue Island quad in particular contains mainline, trunk line, the I.H.B. Riverdale Yard and the B&O.C.T. Barr Yard. All the mainline and trunk lines are faithfully produced in the DLG file. Specific layouts for both yards are missing. Yards seem to depict just the mainline that runs through both yards.MicroDEM by the way, will overlay EITHER/BOTH TIGER and DLG files and allow them to be seen on top of 7.5 minute quads. Now, if there is a way to record GPS waypoints by pointing to vectors on the overlaid DEM, I think you'd have a pretty darn accurate database for creating marker files. My initial investigation in GPS waypoints for MicroDEM seem to indicate that manually recording waypoints by pointing on the quad are not possible. Recording waypoints via a connected GPS receiver are. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Nov-20-01, 04:58 AM (EST) 7. "RE: convert3 program and markers" Hello,System I use the plot markers is the following:Using the MSN Terraserver, I go to the location I want (topo-map). I download that map (best detail). Then I write down 3 coordinates (top left corner, bottom right + left) of that map (image info).Open TSTF2. Load the map en register the coordinates. Plot your markers, export them to use them in MSTS. Go to the route editor and lay your tracks!Anybody knows a better/faster method?C-ya!Filip. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
