Nov-16-01, 10:53 AM (EST) 1. "RE: Micro-dem error" This may or may not help, we will just have to see. When you downloaded the files from GISDataDepot, they came to you in TAR.GZ format. Did you perform any functions on those files between the time you downloaded the files and you tried to merge the DEMs together? If so, I would bet that you unzipped them?If that was the case, try performing the MERGE on the unzipped files, yes, on the TAR.GZ files. MicroDem will automatically decompress the files.Again, I have no idea if this will work, and I am not at my computer with MicroDem on it.I do know, however, that using WinZip "butchers" the TAR.GZ files, at least according to MicroDem's help file.Lawrence Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Nov-17-01, 02:11 AM (EST) 2. "RE: Micro-dem error" thats kind of Funny Lawrence, im deming Montana (So far between Sweetgrass to Power Montana, and Shelby to Havre (Same Route)
and besides that i have been Using Winzip on all the unzipping of those files and have not had any problems at all, my dem is coming out Perfect (Since i played around with it a bit) i have a few (Dummy Routes) after i merge the new dem i extract it into the Dummy route then Copy the Contents into the route im working on, and it's working fineBut as for that Error, it has a lot to do with invalid file types that much i know, I've came across that a few times, but i managed to work around the errorBob Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Nov-17-01, 02:42 AM (EST) 3. "RE: Micro-dem error" Your experience may well point that advice as incorrect. My experience does too. However, I cannot discount what the creator/programmer of MicroDem has to say about the situation. In this words, Winzip "butchers" the files.Clearly, you and I got lucky.Regarding invalid data, wouldn't a "butchering" job by Winzip yield a file with "invalid data"??? Think about it a bit.Lawrence Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
