Nov-12-01, 03:17 PM (EST) "Geometry extractor /crossing borders" Here's a totally newby question, one I haven't been able to find an answer to in the various forums/tutorials. I'm trying to set up an actual BNSF route that is located in eastern Nebraska/western Iowa. Problem is when using the geometry extractor to set up the base "world" I'm not able to "capture" the area needed. The real route meanders basically east and west with some north to south variations. The extractor seems to let me choose certain zones within the US map, but the real route runs right along, and north and south of one of these zone borders. I can use the southern zone, but when the route shifts to the north, there is no textures because I've gone north of the area I was able to originally select. Same is true if I use the next zone to the north, can't go far enough south. In other words, the real route runs right along a "zone border" in the extractor. I have lat/lon coords for about 95 miles of this route so was hoping to use them to set it up, but since these coords tend to jump north and south of the zone border I can't find a way to include all the area I need. I have a feeling this message makes little sense, but if anyone was able to follow along to this point, any pointers/ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!Alan Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

"RE: Geometry extractor /crossing borders" LAST EDITED ON Nov-12-01 AT 04:10 PM (EST)If (a) using the north one means you can't see the south one and (b) using the south one means you can't use the north one, then the obvious solution is to use both!Yes, both regions.I have done it quite successfully on an east/west basis. When you first open the RGE, you have one child window--of the World. You then choose Zoom Region, and you get one of North America (if that is where you right click), which is another child window. You now have two child windows open.Within NA, are several smaller regions, defined by a white lines (I believe). I imagine it is here that you want a north region and a south region. Right click on one, Zoom Region. You now have three child windows open.GO BACK to the NA child window (found under the Window menu choice), and choose the south region. You now have four child windows open.Select your route in the north region AND choose the rest of your route in the south region. On BOTH, when you are done choosing, you will have to minimize the Quad-tree, then generate the tiles. You only have to generate once. It will generate from both (or as many as you want) lowest level regions you have selected tiles in.Oh, and don't forget to select a Starting Route Tile.BTW, last night, I just increased my route from ~1,600 tiles to 3,335 tiles by following the above procedure. The new ~1,735 tiles were in two different lowest-level regions (comparable to your north and south regions you want).Lawrence
