Nov-11-01, 10:42 PM (EST) "East Coast Metro Crashing" Rich...Everytime I use your pretty pretty route in explore mode instead of activity mode I am getting freezeups right at the first switch I come to that are remarkably similar (especially since it's just in Explore) to the loop-freezes. Is that a known issue? Or is it some other issue? And if it is a loop what's your suggestion for what track to rip up so there's no loop anymore?-Andy

Nov-11-01, 11:19 PM (EST) 1. "RE: East Coast Metro Crashing" Loop?? There's no loop in the East Metro loop unless Bo stuck one in. Sure you don't have his version?Rich Garber Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Nov-12-01, 08:39 AM (EST) 2. "RE: East Coast Metro Crashing" I have version 11 from your website. It seems to only crash in Explorer mode starting in Smallville at the very first switch you'd come to heading inbound to the city. I'll poke around the activity editor and see if I can find the offending switch (if that is the issue). It never crashes during activies so I assumed (perhaps wrongly) that is was a manual switch making a loop of some sort, perhaps through a wye.-Andy

Nov-12-01, 09:16 AM (EST) 3. "RE: East Coast Metro Crashing" At Smallville? My mistake on the loop thing. I don't do the Explore mode hardly at all myself but I have used that starting point especially if I'm checking out an engine. I've never had it crash there or anywhere else in Explore mode. There's no loops in the route. You ought to try running another starting point in Explore mode that will run you through an automatic switch because the first switch you run into heading south is an automatic switch. Same thing if you head north but then you're going backwards. There's plenty of automatic switches in Big City if you get on the double-track mainline. Or for that matter the switch that opts for you to go north out of BC is an automatic switch too.The only other thing I can think of is if that sneaky Sniper fella has been tampering with our switches. Nov-12-01, 06:46 PM (EST) 5. "RE: East Coast Metro Crashing" Well it could also just be my computer crashing. I just found it odd that it is always at same point in the route and only in Explore... Actually, I tried starting in a few more places and got similar crashes on the other areas in the same place each time. Maybe my sound card is flopping on one of the sound generators or my video card on one of the textures or something... I haven't a clue. The activities work fine though and the scenery sure is nice. I'll keep messing around till I get explore to work right though.-Andy

Nov-12-01, 10:19 PM (EST) 7. "RE: East Coast Metro Crashing" Can't blame me this time, I don't have the technology for Electromagnatic Pulse Effect generating weapons. I hired a scientist to develop one once, but Dugan got him so tanked the poor guy is still in rehab. When I have something like that on my route, it's usually those pesky Female Hikers to blame, they're all on vacation from studying EMP at Illinois Institute of Technology, and it's kinda like a high tech college prank with them. I'm not gonna tell you how I deal with the problem, but my nickname oughtta give you a hint.
Seriously tho, Andy, you want some help troubleshooting this, Sherlock needs a few more clues.Motherboard: ASUS A7A266

DirectX Version: 4.08.01.0710 (Beta)That's what I got, I couldn't duplicate the problem. I assume you're talking about this switch:
Post your system specs, and if the problem happens in the same spot every time see if you can get a screengrab just before it, and any details like what switches you're throwing. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Nov-13-01, 08:44 PM (EST) 9. "RE: East Coast Metro Crashing" Well I made some new consists to run on the East Coast Metro and they seemed to work fine. I made some new consists on other routes with the East Coast's SW-11 and got crashes. I think Sniper has sabotaged some of your SW-11 engines Rich I can run without crashing using the East Coast GP38, and many other's I've added in from elseroute. There must be some texture or sound on that SW-11 my computer is choking on... and not much I can do about that since everything is as up to date and tweaked as it can get.-Andy

Nov-13-01, 11:25 PM (EST) 10. "RE: East Coast Metro Crashing" Aha! Corrupted files! Egad, Watson, the game's afoot! You're having trouble only with the EMRR switcher, that's where your corrupted file is. Possibly you only need the files for the switcher, but if one is corrupted sometimes there are more. This is one of those annoying intermittent problems, usually if the zip is corrupted winzip tells you that it is and won't unzip it, but sometimes it unzips anyway and most of it works. It would help tremendously if you could post;
1. What kind of modem, and your ISP,
2. What is the size in bytes of emrrv11.zip on your disk? Mine is 12,686,119 bytes, how much different yours is might give a clue as to how much these download problems are losing.
Oh, yeah, Rich, File Library is still down as near as I can tell, you can get into it, but try to D/L something and you get the "moving day" message. Been more than four days, they must have contracted the Hoboken Shore to move the servers. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Nov-13-01, 11:56 PM (EST) 11. "RE: East Coast Metro Crashing" Hmm, well I deleted the route zip in space saving interest. I have Verizon DSL, so maybe i'll just reDL it if I can't find that sw11 on it's own when the file library is open again. It's only been down 4-5 days but it seems like weeks... I guess I've gotten spoiled... remember trying to find files with gopher? Now that took as many as 4-5 days for it to search for the ftp you wanted Maybe someday I'll finish my route... if I can ever find free or cheap Boston track plans that one can get with cash insteada CC. Maybe some night I'll just go out with a pad of graph paper, a level and some bolt cutters. -Andy

Nov-14-01, 00:14 AM (EST) 12. "RE: East Coast Metro Crashing" Achoo... I mean... gosh how do you spell that again.. hold on... okay.. Akochan. I never tried putting the sw12 on another route. The only time I've ever seen a Metro unit on another track happened when... *straightens up* oh... never mind. Anyway, on my site is a Sw1200 fix. Turns out I slightly untweaked Rich Lamp's original setup which... uh... yeah. Try that first before doing anything and see if that helps. It eliminates the duplicates too. It's a real simple fix too.Good luck!Rich Garber Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Nov-14-01, 12:34 PM (EST) 15. "RE: East Coast Metro Crashing" I just ran the sw1200 on a different route this morning, but this one includes the fix.. no wait.. it's the realism one, and it ran fine. Well... til I hit the end of the line unexpectedly at over 100mph... was a nice flight. No peanuts though...Rich Garber Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Nov-14-01, 12:29 PM (EST) 14. "RE: East Coast Metro Crashing" LAST EDITED ON Nov-14-01 AT 12:32 PM (EST)Nah Jim..they've bought some new computers they need to hold the files..Unfortunatley there stuck on the port at Bow River Rail.. The track workers are on strike... better pay and all that, Got a meeting with the government to sort it all out in about 4 or 5 days...
(Translation: Ive got some new games to play and have taken a break from finishing the port for a bit )Rich..have you compiled all the new little fixes into the route download itself yet ? or are you waiting for the activity's to be done ? Its just that i have the original of your latest version still but its not currently used due to lack of space thanks to the new games...Was wondering if its worth deleting the one i have and grabbing the latest ????Ive downloaded stuff from the file library still...ho it was 6kb a second...Its open boy's n girls, just not fully Catchya's Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
