Thanks

Press F7 to see the tile and patch grid, then left-click within a tile (a tile has blue borders; the borders of one patch in that tile will turn red), and right-click to open a pop-up menu. You can now set altitude limits (by default -63m and +65m): the terrain within the selected tile will not drop below or rise above these limits. It has been written that if you choose larger limits, the altitude resolution may suffer: you may not be able to tune the terrain as finely any more. Nevertheless, the Innsbruck - St. Anton route uses lower and upper altitude limits around +1100m and +2600m near St. Anton, with no apparent loss of vertical resolution. It has been reported that MSTS has an upper altitude limit between 3500 and 3600m, or even higher.

When you set the lower limit no terrain in any square in the entire tile can be set lower than that number. I went nuts trying to figure out why the Y key wouldn't lower the terrain to match the track I'd set below ground level (I was cutting a river bed.) I sure felt stupid when I finally remembered. I just reset the lower limit to about 10 meters below the current ground level and everything was again fine. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

The trick to getting the base level to a known value is to set the tile minimum height to that value. That will force the base height to the value selected. You can then lower the minimum value but the tile will remain where just set. This assumes the tile was originally too low. If it was too high, temporarily set the maximum height to the desired value. This will force the tile down to that level. Then reset the maximum height. The tile level will remain where you juest set it. You can now make individual adjustments above and below grade. Any objects already on the tile may need to be leveled.Bill Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Nov-15-01, 07:48 AM (EST) 5. "RE: Is it possible to raise the height of a tile to some specified value?" I can raise the height of of about six of the black squares to any level, but that appears to be about the limit in the number of squares that can be raised at one time. In the 63 to -63 setting if I set the -63 to any positive value the tile appears to be unusable, even setting it to .00000001.
