Nov-10-01, 07:34 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Esquimalt and Nanaimo" Hello,Getting detailed track plan info in the form of a condensed profile from CP rail is one step beyond impossible. I live right in the E&N's backyard. I am currently working on the route using a marker file I create using a handheld GPS. Because of the lack of industries currently on the line I am including all past sidings and industries as well as the CN (Galloping Goose) line and the V&S. If you want I can send you some photos of specific locations around the Victoria area.Joerg Seiler Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Nov-10-01, 09:43 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Esquimalt and Nanaimo" I live up in Nanaimo, and would love to work on the E&N for trainsim. There are two major problems though, first is the lack of DEM, and Second is the lack of a Condensed Profile. Condensed Profiles can be hard to find, but i managed to get my hands on a BC Rail Profile long enough to Photocopy it! You may be able to get one from the E&N by asking Rail America by either email or phone.Tell me how it works out!Chris Caswell

Nov-10-01, 10:00 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Esquimalt and Nanaimo" Of course you will be including the Naniamo Lakes Line and Chemainus mill of MacMillan and Bloedell won't you? I got to ride the 1077 up to the Lakes in 1968, and rode the #4 at the mill in 1970. Great photos and memories!Steve Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Nov-11-01, 01:12 AM (EST) 5. "RE: Esquimalt and Nanaimo" If it existed on the line I intend to model it. The more industries the better from an activities point of view. I will also model the line to Port Alberni and the mill there for which I am eagerly awaiting the GE45 tonner.
I have toyed with the idea of adding the the proposed extension from Port Alberni to Long Beach and Uclulet on the west coast and the proposal of extending the line to Campbell River and across the strait to the Mainland. This is definitely a far in the future pipe dream for now though.Joerg Seiler Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Nov-11-01, 00:55 AM (EST) 4. "RE: Esquimalt and Nanaimo" I found the BC Rail condensed profile the easiest to come by. I bought mine either at the Squamish Railway museum or the Main station in Vancouver a couple of years back for a measly $5. The lack of DEM does present some problems but with the elevation data from the GPS and pictures taken along the way a convincing terrain can be modeled in short order. The route looks best though when seen from the loco cab as aerial views show the lack of rolling landscape in the distance. I compensate for this by building the route in extreme detail to the extent that MSTS will allow. The downtown area has over 850 objects per 2km tile but looks awesome, especially at night.I'll upload some pics in a couple of weeks. This week I'm deluged with house renos, this weekend getting ready to refinish the hardwood floors next week. You never know how much stuff you accumulate over the years until you have to move it.
