Nov-07-01, 10:33 AM (EST) "Route Building Guide for MSTS by MV - IV" CORRECTION to dual-track branches: The two figures in section 3.3.9f of the Guide must be replaced with the following.
The reason is that in MSTS a left-turning switch is not the mirror image of a right-turning switch: there is slight difference in shape. This "Step by Step Guide to Route Building for Microsoft Train Simulator", of nearly 200 pages, is aimed at beginners and non-experts. It can be downloaded from Abacus as a PDF file of 6.8 Mb, for US$15, and requires Adobe Acrobat 4 or later. To order, please go to http://TrainSimulatorWorld.com/. A detailed description of the contents of my Route Building Guide for MSTS, with screenshots and illustrations, is available at http://avsim.com/hangar/utils/mvchallenges/mstsguide/MSTSguide.html.Michael Vone

Nov-07-01, 02:39 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Route Building Guide for MSTS by MV - IV" Michael,Thank you very much for your support of your guide. This guide has been my constant companion. By the way if you have reason for another update, you might extend the Dynamic Track Section somewhat, with examples of actual uses similar to this correction. Your explanation of dynamic track configurations is very clear. However in the RE placing and tinkering with dynamic track is not as intuitive as the same actions with fixed track sections. While attempting to build prototype routes(yard and switching) I found that dynamic track was essential to get as close to the real thing as possible, but I found real problems related to matching multiple dynamic curved tracks to fixed track due to rounding errors with different radii and curve length especially at the limits. I think this would be extremely useful to those who want to customize/design their own route but are discouraged. Now if only someone would make some trackshape files and track section data entries for some additional turnout/point configurations.RegardsCharles OHearn Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
