Nov-02-01, 09:42 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Moffat Tunnel Route" Hey can you possibily put it with a self installer. Will the moffat tunnel have its own individual portal like in the real one, or will it be default?? Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Nov-02-01, 11:00 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Moffat Tunnel Route" LAST EDITED ON Nov-02-01 AT 11:06 PM (EST)Here's a pic I found online of the East portal which would make a fine texture. For those not familiar with Moffat tunnel, that light is a train, not the other end of the tunnel. The tunnel is 7 miles long and the grade crests midway through the tunnel.Message Areas - "Moffat Tunnel Route" – image 6I took the California Zephyr from Denver to Oakland in the 80's and the Moffat tunnel portion is an especially dramatic and scenic line. I look forward to revisiting it in TS.Cliff Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Nov-02-01, 11:36 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Moffat Tunnel Route" I could knock out a model of the tunnel portal if you need one. I'm not certain if there is anything special needed for a portal, but I could definitely build it quickly based on that photo. E-mail me if you need a hand...

Nov-02-01, 11:39 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Moffat Tunnel Route" OK, to answer the questions: I am a Visual Basic programmer, and I am planning on a setup program which will fully install the route, no muss, no fuss. I really want to build the portals, but my 3d skills are a little lean right now, HOWEVER my plans do include the portals on both ends. I have already built some objects, which I will try to do screenshots of next time, and if I can get permission, I will include the Rio Grande trains from the website with the route. The route now belongs to UP, but due to their attitude, it will be done as D&RGW. Now, for a few questions:
Should I release the route in pieces, i.e track and signals, then track, signals, and structures, etc, etc, or just wait till the whole thing's "finished."I'd like to do two "versions" Steam and Diesel, anyone interested in one or the other? How much of Denver would you like to see? Just a jumping off point, or more of the Yard and warehouses around it? There are very few switching opportunities on this route, but I think the 30 tunnels and breathtaking scenery are worth it.I have the Moffat Tunnel as it's full 6.2 mile length, but I've been thinking of cutting it down a little, at 40MPH, it makes for almost 10 real minutes of looking at tunnel walls.BTW, this WILL BE FREEWARE!!! "RE: Moffat Tunnel Route" looks great, thanks for the FREEWARE. well to help out those slowpokes like myself with dial ups, release it in pieces. unless like david klemm youd accept blank cds mailed to you, which youd burn your fine route to. looks good.crayphish Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Nov-03-01, 11:16 AM (EST) 9. "RE: Moffat Tunnel Route" Didn't UP say that they only opposed making their routes/trains etc. available for money? If that's the case, there shouldn't be any problems making it as UP since it is going to be freeware?
Also - I say go for the full length of the tunnel. I don't mind taking 10 minutes or more to get through. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Nov-07-01, 02:27 PM (EST) 23. "RE: Moffat Tunnel Route" The route's end points should coincide with the train operations you envision and what would generate the most interest and contribution by others. Ski Train - Union Station to Tabernash, Unit Coal - Craig/Mines to North Yard, Calif Zephyr - Denver to Glenwood Spgs thru Glenwood Canyon, etc. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Nov-03-01, 12:40 PM (EST) 10. "RE: Moffat Tunnel Route" Yes it is different, there will have to be some comprimises, I'd kind of like people to be able to enjoy this route without having frame rates of 3, or having to wait a year until I create new track and reproduce buildings on the route. I will be using mostly objects from Marias, some modified, and there will be some errors in track alignment, comprimises, etc. But over-all, I think people are going to have a great time with it. I want to find out how to include a "tour" of the line, since without an "autopilot", it's easy to let a train get away from you just watching the scenery go by... Nov-04-01, 10:09 PM (EST) 13. "RE: Moffat Tunnel Route" I am VERY EXCITED TO SEE THIS!!
Question...How far are you taking the Route (how far west)?I love the engines and cars (hehehe shameless plug). Maybe I should make some with different numbers for you. What we really need are some tunnel motors echoing from the steep canyon walls. Nick

Nov-04-01, 11:20 PM (EST) 14. "RE: Moffat Tunnel Route" Great Question. I am watching this with interest and
excitement as well. The view out my office near Boulder
is of the Moffat Tunnel route as it turns up Eldorado
Canyon north of the 'big 10' curve. I hope
it can include the stop at Winter Park Ski area just
west of the Moffat tunnel - so we can run ski trains
from Denver during snow storms!
Anyway, keep up the good work!

Nov-04-01, 11:23 PM (EST) 15. "RE: Moffat Tunnel Route" Actually, I was going to try to get a hold of the folks responsible for the Rio Grande SD45's which I believe to be the best looking locomotives out there. Of course if releasing my route motivates folks to make more Rio Grande stuff, well, who am I to argue? Actually I was started just East of Tabernash, West of Frasier, CO. If enough people are interested, once I'm finished and have this out there, I wouldn't mind doing the route all the way to Orestod, another gentleman is working on Pueblo to Minturn, which eventually goes to Orestod, hmmmm, combined route? Plus the Joint Line from Denver to Pueblo? Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Nov-04-01, 11:30 PM (EST) 16. "RE: Moffat Tunnel Route" I just "arrived" at Plainview, it's all "downhill" from here. I am going to either make this a very reasonable sized download, or break it up into multiple downloads, I really want as many people as possible to get a chance at this route. and if you went up to Craig/Steamboat we could run coal trains down to the powerplant up by I-76 / I-70, (don't know the name)don't limit youself, the more route-miles the better
-I don't care how big you make it, I only have a dial up connection, but I'm verrrrrryyyyy patient.
Is it going to have DRGW north yard??
---at last my lepper engines might have a homeThank you VERY VERY much for doing the route!!!!!!!!!

Nov-05-01, 06:43 PM (EST) 19. "RE: Moffat Tunnel Route" I might not understand the Route Editor so I'll reskin some more D&RGW equipment. I took a picture of this hopper a couple of days ago. Iam assuming that there are only a few like it since this is the first one i have seen. More stuff to take on your Route. I will try to reskin some different numbers of my RG SD45. Keep up the good work.

Nov-06-01, 09:53 PM (EST) 22. "RE: Moffat Tunnel Route" Actually, the gentleman doing the portals, etc for me, is a Steam Fan, so I'm thinking two versions - Big Steam, early diesel, and modern D&RGW. To be honest, this area of the country hasn't changed much in 50 years, It could very easily be 1950 or 1980 with very few changes...Rob Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
