Oct-04-01, 10:44 PM (EST) "A word of warning on CD writers" I had just recently purchased a CD writer for my systm so I can back up my route construction files without gobbling up major Hard Disk Space. The model that I purchased was a Philips PCRW 1208K. However when I tried to install the new drive on my machine it screwed up my entire system. I knew that it wasn't the drive itself because I had used it on another system and it worked just fine. In the process of talking to their tech-support people they informed me that their product was not fully compatible with AMD chips. The box had said that the minimum requirements for CPU was a Pentium II 350 mhz or higher or equivelant. Not being an expert on computers I thought that a 450 mhz AMD chip was an equivelant. The attitude of the people at Philips was that since they did not consider the AMD chip an equivelant that they had no need to post on the box that the AMD chip was not compatible. It would be nice if these companies would remember that not everyone is an expert on computers. To me brand a's Xmhz processor is equal to company b's Xmhz processor. Perhaps I should talk to the company head and talk with him about compatiility issue between Bendix and Wagner brake parts on a dump truck. Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

I can't get used to how vague they are when they tell you about compatibility. The tools of my trade are chainsaws and tipper trucks; they either work or they don't, and if you buy a new one that doesn't work 100%, it goes back to the shops pronto!I've now got a Plextor Plexwriter 12/10/32, which has given no problems whatsoever (touchwood) Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
