Sep-30-01, 03:39 AM (EST) 1. "RE: Jerome & Prescott R.R." Are you a resident? I live in downtown Prescott right now. If case you didn't know, there was a short line RR that ran from Jerome down to Chino Valley for the mines up on Jermone. To see Prescott listed, that was a surprise!-RB

No I'm over in southern california,I just liked the name,I knew a short line operated near there but I just decided to make up a fictional one. I have a question though, what is the most common mineral extracted?(copper, silver, etc.) Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Sep-30-01, 07:14 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Jerome & Prescott R.R." I also never thought I would see anyone mention Prescott (Preskit). I went to college at Embry Riddle there in the late 80's and spent a lot of time walking the old tracks. I found several old date nails from 1927.Look foward to seeing your progress and lend a hand if you need.Robert Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Oct-09-01, 02:58 AM (EST) 5. "RE: Jerome & Prescott R.R." Arizona emerges from my editor day by day, sometimes a section of track is laid only ten meters at a time, often I feel I will go batty, dealing with small crashes that lose an hour or so of work,it is not easy to do this the way I have chosen,I am freelancing the texture from my memories of growing up in utah, and visiting, and living for a time in arizona. I change the textures by hand, and I have the dem data,if it becomes to tedious, but I want to do this,I have no idea how big the route will be,I know that the jerome & prescott will be at least 40 miles, this route is fictional, but it is based on facts,Jerome was serviced by two railroads in it's history. First Senetor William A. Clarks,United Verde&Pacific,a very quaint 3' Narrow Gauge line, then by The Peavine Route, Sante Fe,Prescott & Phoenix, another line out of Prescott was the Prescott & Northeastern,I will post a pic of one of thier Mikado's,which is similiar to what I hope to have when the mining and smelter portions are complete The mines closed in 1953,and Jerome became a "Living" Ghost Town, for like Tombstone it also is the town that would not die, the smelter burned in 1915,and was moved to clarkdale, for those interested the verde canyon railway that runs tourists pulled behind restored F-units,is part of the Peavine(If I'm wrong please correct me.)Jerome was called the Billion Dollar Town,as it once pulled a Million Dollars a day of Rich Copper and Gold Deposits,The Jerome & Prescott R.R. begins at Jerome Junction, and here I interchange with the Santa Fe Railroad,it is this Class 1 Mainline Railroad that I am currently working on,it will be in the route for several miles, and when the older 2-8-0's,and 2-8-2's of the J&PRR are working the junction interchanging cars, there will be mainline action with F-units,and Zebra striped Geep's,and as we move up to the mines it will be like going back in time.Message Areas - "Jerome & Prescott R.R." – image 6 Message Areas - "Jerome & Prescott R.R." – image 7

Oct-10-01, 00:23 AM (EST) 7. "RE: Jerome & Prescott R.R." Deadhead-Jerome was a small copper mining town (but it also produced gold, iron, and zinc in limited quntities) that had a fairly short boom. It is now a sort of artists refuge and is full of galleries and biker bars (makes for an interesting mix at bar time I'm sure). If you see pictures, you'd be amazed that they were able to get a railroad down that mountain. And Rob Damon, I'm a Riddle Man myself....small world i would say!-Rich Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Oct-10-01, 01:13 PM (EST) 9. "RE: Jerome & Prescott R.R." well I hope to be able to reproduce the route to a time prior to 1953 when it was undiscovered as a refuge for the artsy/crafty types,a time when your underground mines catch fire, you turn to strip mining, and no one complains, truth being my buzz word of the day,I have a bias for Narrow Gauge in Colorado,I grew up in California, then Utah, then Arizona,I always enjoyed the wild west and the rails connecting it to the east,I chose Jerome randomly from a map of Arizona, and concluded from the Topography that it was a challenge, the quintesential elements of absolute difference from routes being developed,it is short and sweet,(42 miles point to point)and it interchanges with a class 1 freight hauler,(ATSF) I have been freelancing from photos and memory the terrain features,I am at work or I would post a picture from my 3D DEM viewer, and I am pretty close, but may indeed star again from scratch with DEM. With DEM you can view it and fly through it like MSTS,you can also overlay a Topigraphical Map over the Terrain, giving absolute correct locations of track, towns and mines,it would be intense to be able to Overlay the Topo to Scale in the Route Editor,by making the Map into an .ace file and placing it as Terrain, fllowing the course laid out before you placing track and objects, and then after changing terrain features to suit the area. Perhaps with experimenting this could be the next hack into the editor, overlay. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Oct-10-01, 08:42 PM (EST) 10. "RE: Jerome & Prescott R.R." Howdy guys,Well, I finally decided to make a post here about this fictional line. Why? Because, as it turns out, my mother grew up in one of those homes on the hill (pictured above) there in Jerome, she lived there with my great aunt because my grandmother was hospitalized in Phoenix for kidney trouble. My grandfather, Raleigh Alexander (on my mother's side) was an engineer on the railroad that ran between Jerome and Clarksdale back in the 30's, he hauled copper ore down the hill from the mines to the smelters in Clarksdale and Cottonwood. Later he retired, and moved the whole family to Phoenix so they would be closer to my grandmother.I would love to help recreate a non-fictional version of the route, and I think a good place to start on a project like that would be the kewl mining museum in Jerome, they may be able to offer some help.Anyhow, if anyone is interested in doing a non-fictional version of the route, please let me know. My email address is brad@3dtrainstuff.comBest regards,
Brad
