It isn't the bottom as sometimes the track remains covered, and it isn't the top because its just too wide I think. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Matt Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Sep-28-01, 08:36 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Cutting / Embankment" I have noticed the same thing. For one thing, all of the dimensions in MSTS are in METERS - some weird kind of measurement that our European friends insist on using- just joking of course. Typically a cut for single track would be essentially flat across the bottom for a distance of 15-18 feet, i.e. 5-6 meters. Slopes would rarely exceed 45 degrees, unless it was a rock cut, which might go to 80 degrees. Most modern cuts are also "benched", i.e. if they are rock, the sides look like staircases at typically 5-10 ft. height intervals. If it is an embankment, i.e. a fill, the top would be still be about 15 feet wide, just to allow enough room for a crewman to walk beside the train in the event of a problem on the line of road, wider if economically feasible. By the way, Federal law requires a walkway on one side of a bridge. I don't know if MSTS allows this detail or not.Hope this helps. Even so, you may find the track is still covered in spots. You must then use your scenery tool to raise or lower very small pieces of the scenery to sort of "force fit" it to the track. A little encroachment on the ballast shoulder should not be a concern - it sometimes does in the real world too.J. H. Sullivan, P.E.
