Sep-26-01, 08:35 PM (EST) "Route Building Guide for MSTS by MV - III" NEW: A new version of the Guide is available for download at Abacus: it replaces the blue background with blue borders, to reduce ink usage when printing. And one typo is corrected: in section 3.3.8 on Dynamic Tracks, 10 degrees = 0.175 radians (not 0.018 radians). If you have already bought the guide, you may download the new version using the same key that you already received from Abacus. This "Step by Step Guide to Route Building for Microsoft Train Simulator", of nearly 200 pages, is aimed at beginners and non-experts. It can be downloaded from Abacus as a PDF file of 6.8 Mb, for US$15, and requires Adobe Acrobat 4 or later. To order, please go to http://TrainSimulatorWorld.com/. A detailed description of the contents of my Route Building Guide for MSTS, with screenshots and illustrations, is available at http://avsim.com/hangar/utils/mvchallenges/mstsguide/MSTSguide.html.I welcome comments on the Guide in this thread, as well as by e-mail at mivone@pacbell.net. I will try to update the Guide as more is learned about building routes for MSTS.Michael Vone

"RE: Route Building Guide for MSTS by MV - III" Hopefully this change will allow you to read the text and page 149 (green lettering on a blue background did not work). It is nice to have a complete package with basics of route design. Sep-27-01, 02:03 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Route Building Guide for MSTS by MV - III" Actually this is outstanding news. I'm gonna go get it and re-print the thing so I can read the pages I can't now. Sorry, these old eyes I guess.

Sep-29-01, 11:55 AM (EST) 4. "Updates to Guide" Typographical errors:- in section J, in last line of page 75 (in old version with blue background on page 69 = thumbnail page 76): read A1tPntRgtMnl.s (correct to "Rgt") instead of A1tPnt10dLftMnl.s ("Lft" is incorrect);- in section K, after "Do the following" on page 94 (in old version with blue background on page 85 = thumbnail page 95): TWICE, read A1t500r10dTun.s (correct to "r") instead of A1t500m10dTun.s ("m" is incorrect).Add general command (in the Appendix):Ctrl-S: save to file.Michael Vone

I have the latest version all printed out, but I've discovered that keeping it in the background on the computer works great while I switch between views of the editor and your tutorial.I've finished all of my track in the tutorial, and am now just beginning to add objects to it. GREAT! I could have never done it without your book. The tutorial has just about everything in it - thanks a lot! Best $15.00 I'll ever spend on MSTS!

Nov-03-01, 01:13 PM (EST) 6. "RE: Route Building Guide for MSTS by MV - III" Was a FAR better purchase that the "official" stategy guide - well worth it (even with the pitiful Australian / US exchange rate). One thing I would suggest is an index, listing pages not section references (as well as). It is a 200 page tome, and to find something specific amongst actual text and the step by step activity, can be a little confusing at times...OZ Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Nov-14-01, 08:54 AM (EST) 7. "RE: Route Building Guide for MSTS by MV - III" Hello Michael,Excellent work on your guide. I can now lay dynamic track with ease. You need to update the links to the Train-sim.com forum since most of these links have now been archived and have a slightly different URL.I think you should add an advanced track laying section. By changing the Error Bias to 0 for various scenery patches, and adjusting the Embankment, cut, and width (60, 15, 8), then add track. Thanks for a great addition.
