Sep-15-01, 02:59 AM (EST) "Ghost in my route editor!!" Hey, I have one switch that just sits there and operates it's self. I didn't animate it, but it just slowly keeps switching back and forth. I noticed this when testing out my new rail yard, when I'd try to go onto one of my sidings, the game would crash. The same switch everytime I tried to turn it. So I went to it in my route editor and that single switch is doing that. I tried to replace it, replaced it 5 times. I keeps working it's self. Anybody no how to stop this or perform an exorcism. Thanks. David Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Sep-15-01, 10:44 AM (EST) 1. "RE: Ghost in my route editor!!" I had the same problem, when i tried to lay a track-"circle". MSTS doesn´t like them. Maybe that´s the solution? If not call Rome for a decent exorcism. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

LAST EDITED ON Sep-15-01 AT 01:25 PM (EST)Had that problem with face to face return loops, if you isolate facing return loops with enough switches it's possible to load and run, but as soon as the game engine "sees" the continuous path it goes schizoid. In my case I had a yard inside a return loop, and everything worked fine unless I went North to another return loop, around the loop back to the one with the yard, and you had to throw three switches for the loop to go around it counterclockwise. (worked ok clockwise, but made it so you couldn't change the switch on the second loop.) At first, throwing the third and final switch that completed the continuous path would cause the game to reset the first switch to straight, with the usual consequences for the cars still on the main. Solution to that obviously was to increase the distance between the first and third switches, or run shorter trains. I finally gave up on that route cuz it just started locking up all the time. Sep-18-01, 09:39 PM (EST) 9. "RE: Ghost in my route editor!!" LAST EDITED ON Sep-18-01 AT 09:41 PM (EST)Hmm, didn't look at this for a while. Lot of questions. Tired of hunting U-boats? Not yet, Silent Hunter 2 and it's companion destroyer haven't come out yet. I was an Aviation ASW tech in a heavy helicopter anti-submarine squadron, spent most of my "cold warrior" tour chasing Soviet nuke subs around the North Atlantic and Denmark Straits. Hunting a WW2 sub with modern equipment would be like playing hide and seek with "Sneezy" from the seven dwarfs, any boat that had to come up to charge batteries every 48 hours all you gotta do is wait for him to reveal himself. Looking forward to the challenge of trying it with WW2 equipment, tho, better than fishing.
Yup, sick puppy all right, but getting the screenshots, copying "Slimer" from one of the ghostbuster fan websites, and editing the whole thing in picture it publisher took all of 10 minutes. It took a lot longer to steal the portable neutron pack from Ghostbuster's HQ and rig it up to replace the 30mm chain gun.
I did it from GUNSHIP! because that was the first disk I could lay my hands on, altho I still like Longbow 2 better.Back to serious business, I read somewhere when this whole thing started (was it really only 2 1/2 months ago?) that it was probably better to delete a bad route and start over instead of trying to fix it, and so far concerning the Island of Sodor I've found that to be true. After trying to ressurect it a few times now, getting rid of all the loops, ripping up and relaying track, I'm still getting crashes and finding new bugs on an hourly basis. I take a break and do silly things like the above to maintain what little sanity I have left, but I'm afraid I'm probably gonna wind up scrapping Sodor and starting over. They're not really wasted hours, because it's been an educational experience. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
