Sep-02-01, 01:39 PM (EST) "DEMEX - particularly with Metric elevations" I am aware that you cannot mix the 10x10 and 30x30 data. In working with the upper end of the Clinchfield, everything is fine as far as terrain extraction until I come to the area that requires using Haysi and Clintwood Quad data.Haysi is available in both 10x10, and 30x30, with both supposedly being in meters. However, when I extract the 30x30 using MicroDem, and check the elevations, they are obviously feet, not meters. If I use this data to generate terrain, it works fine, modifies about 20 tiles, but leaves a flat gap between itself and other quads around it. These gaps of flat data are approximately 1 tile in width, i.e. 2km.Clintwood, however, produces elevation in the range of 5000+- when MicroDem is run, and apparently these are Decimeters. However, when I use DEMEX on this, and specifiy Decimeters, I get a flat plateau covering the whole Clintwood Quad, at least that part that I need for modeling. Flat as a table on top. This bugs me.The only workaround that I know of, for both the above problems is to hand-shape the terrain. To do this, I will take coordinate readings along east-west, and north-south lines and pick points on known contour lines, which in this area go up to about 1800'.Has anyone else seem something like this and worked out a better workaround.J. Sep-05-01, 07:17 PM (EST) 1. "RE: DEMEX - particularly with Metric elevations" I had the same problem with the DEMs for Atlanta. In response, I wrote a utility called XYZMerge which forces MicroDEM to export all DEMs to XYZ files, and then merges them into a single XYZ file that can be re-imported into MicroDEM at 30m x 30m resolution. This program worked much better than trying to resample the DEMs as the tutorial recommended--I ended up with no gaps! I've also posted a DEM seam eliminator utility and a UTMSplice utility to help with those problems, as well.A search should give you access to those files, since they have not been posted to the Utilities area yet. Nov-21-01, 12:18 PM (EST) 3. "RE: DEMEX - particularly with Metric elevations" Do a search in this forum using the term "XYZMerge" as your search term. Be sure to click the Archive check box.Wes Downs gives very clear instructions on what needs to be done.Further, Wes answered your question. He writes, "XYZMerge which forces MicroDEM to export all DEMs to XYZ files." XYZMerge does all the work. You do not have to worry about anything.Do the search and read the information. It will provide a lot of help.Lawrence Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Nov-23-01, 07:07 PM (EST) 4. "RE: DEMEX - particularly with Metric elevations" I tried that, and yes it does work, but I have about 20 quads involved, and with a 1G Athlon, it ran all night, and still was nowhere near done, so I have decided to adjust those areas by hand. He also has a program out that smooths out "ditches" after the merge is done with Micro-DEM, and although not perfect, it ran much faster, and produced acceptible results in all but one spot. When the boundary occurs in a mountainous area, along the side of the mountain, it tends to creat a ridge that sticks out above the correct terrain, but this was easily fixed.J. H. Nov-23-01, 10:36 PM (EST) 8. "RE: DEMEX - particularly with Metric elevations" Do you have the correct version of MicroDem? XYZMerge was created with one version in mind, and MicroDem has been updated since then.See http://sd40.topcities.com for more a link to the correct version.Lawrence Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
