Sep-01-01, 09:41 AM (EST) 6. "RE: Progress on the Royal Gorge Route" Eric,I've been running the 5704 Rio Grande unit since you sent it to me when we were beta testing the F-7 for 3-D Trains, and it was the motivating force that's help me lay 60 miles of rail so far. I've downloaded and installed everything you've painted, and I can't express my appreciation anough. I have the WP unit, and am now eagerly waiting for the Budd cars and the chance to do the California Zephyr. For this who are interested, here are a couple of shots of the Gorge, before and after adding the Arkansas River. I still need to do a lot of additional texturing and am looking for some adventurous person with 3-D Max or 3-D Canvas to see if the Hanging Bridge is feasable.NickMessage Areas - "Progress on the Royal Gorge Route" – image 4 Message Areas - "Progress on the Royal Gorge Route" – image 5 Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Sep-01-01, 10:49 AM (EST) 8. "RE: Progress on the Royal Gorge Route" LAST EDITED ON Sep-01-01 AT 10:55 AM (EST)It's one of the weirder things in railroad engineering. The canyon was too narrow for the river and the roadbed, so the D&RG put a bridge down the north side of the canyon and supported it with a set of two trusses spanned to the rock wall on the other side. Sep-01-01, 12:00 PM (EST) 10. "RE: Progress on the Royal Gorge Route" The line is still there, but the Rio Grande no longer runs it. They were bought out by the Union Pacific in 1999, and UP shut down the line. at present the trackage is shared by a local company that services the industries to the west of Pueblo, and an excursion line that runs multiple daily sightseeing trips from Canon City up the Gorge using old heavyweight coaches pulled by ex-CNW F-7's painted in Rio Grande livery, but using their own name. Sep-01-01, 02:56 PM (EST) 11. "Finally, a D&RG route.... (If it only it were a narrow gauge...)" Say, some poeple here have been thinking about doing a Narrow Gauge route for MS. The Royal Gorge would be peferct! Afterall, it is highly scenic and it was originally apart of the D&RG, America's larges 3 foot gauge railway! Maybe you could get together with another desigener and turn this into an 1880s sceneraio. I think it would be a great idea. I know that I myself would love to drive some of those really early narrow gauge Baldwins. Like the Americans, Moguls, Tenwheelers, Consdilations, etc. Plus maybe some early rolling stock to. Like wood coaches, 20 foot box cars, 4 wheel cabooses, etc. I think it would be the best thing since sliced bread! Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
