Aug-29-01, 03:18 PM (EST) "Finally, I have decided on a very scenic route :)" I happen to notice, that the Bellingham Subdivision is quite SIMPLE to do, it is mostly straight and is mainly F-50 P-79mph running. However.......There is some of DEM data that I can not find, so if I was to do this route, it will not be near as prototypical as it should be.This route will be from Blaine, WA to Everett, Wa, including all the major yards - Burlington, Delta, and Bayside, also a mile or two going onto each other subdivision - Scenic Sub to Monroe and the Scenic Sub to Edmonds. I do know of some "Mini" yards on this route, I'm going to have to make about 20 trips to get photos of buildings, and various bridges along the route (groans)
Just out of question, should I download that Auto Route Marker utility? I'm getting Cable Internet so downloading it won't be a problem.....

"RE: Finally, I have decided on a very scenic route :)" One thing I use as opposed to field trips(more difficult now that I live in Minnesota and my route is in Illinois) is satellite photos. Go to http://terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.com/default.asp and check it out. When you zoom into the most detail, you at least can see the type of buildings.

Aug-29-01, 03:45 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Finally, I have decided on a very scenic route :)" Now, I haven't gone any farther north than Marysville, but from there south, all the DEM data is available, as I have downloaded much of it between Marysville and Tacoma, and Edmonds to Stevens Pass. From my experience of getting DEMs for Washington, it seems very complete.Lawrence Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-29-01, 06:25 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Finally, I have decided on a very scenic route :)" Great data for Seattle area is available here on this site. I have used it myself for testing the MSTS-DEM extractor and such.http://duff.geology.washington.edu/data/raster/tenmeter/byquad/index.htmlClick the above link, then click the SEATTLE quad, then download all the DEMS you want!Kern Pegg - Route Developer

That is what seemed to be said in the "general info" link about half way down the page.Lawrence Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-30-01, 11:49 AM (EST) 6. "RE: Finally, I have decided on a very scenic route :)" YES - this Washington data is extremely detailed, much better than the 1:24,000 that is at GISDataDepot.Best of luck to you! Lots to work with there =) Just be aware that conversions and merging of multiple DEM files from the Washington data, and then converting to XYZ triples, takes MEGA hard drive space. 70-150 MEGS per conversion is not unheard of.But, as you can see from my site (link below), the results are amazing!Kern Pegg - Route Developer

"RE: Finally, I have decided on a very scenic route :)" ::chuckle::The merge/XYZ conversion I did last night was between 300-400 MB.One thing that I like about this source is that it allows for faster downloading. GISDataDepot throttles you down, and even with a download accelerator (I use Download Accelerator, very nice), you are still very limited in the speeds. At this new place you pointed out, DAP works just great! In seconds, I have the 1-2 MB file downloaded.Lawrence Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
