Since with the conversion of the North End of the NEC to "Constant Tension Wire" this style of gantry now is prototypical for new/rebuilt lines in the US.... gantries in both 6.0 metre and 7.2 metre catenary height, so we
can electrify both European and North American routes. One of my
plans is to build a thoroughly "modernized" Marias Pass route
with 7.2 metre constant tension catenary, new style roadbed and
concrete ties(sleepers), double-tracked along the entire route,
elimination of most if not all grade crossings, some "decurving"
and "debumping" of the route, reducing the grade variant to 2.2
degrees or less where this is possible without altering to look
of it too much, and finally a BIG marshalling yard at Shelby,
all under gantry. Basically, my aim to create a route that
will work well for high-speed passenger operations and also
serve well as a route for heavy electrified freight operations.....Fred
