Aug-27-01, 08:55 PM (EST) "Can UK lads help with the walkthrough?" I am following the walkthrough posted by eveningstar after work with branchline, among others. Ive got the map ready, everything going fine until had to go into options>coordinates in microdem. When i went to this, i was supposed to change the setting to UTM. i could not find this, then later on when entering my first registration point, it asks for the lat/long coords rather than UTM. is this correct? any advice? Thanks again.Geordie Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-29-01, 01:47 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Can UK lads help with the walkthrough?" I always use Lat/Long when entering the reference points in MicroDEM. You should see "Assumes WGS84" when you double-click on a registration point and then you should click on the Lat/Long tag in the window where it asks for the reference coordinates. The status bar at the bottom of the map window will then show UTM coordinates but that's OK. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-29-01, 02:56 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Can UK lads help with the walkthrough?" UTM co-ords are better to enter than lat/long due to possible inaccuracies with datums (or so i'm told).(In the following text the text in <brackets> indicates a menu selection)Once you've loaded the bitmap (and cancelled the window which is asking for you to locate the registration points) and a little window comes up saying "register map now", you should be able to see the bitmap window with the text "first registration point" in the bottom bar. go to <options> and then <co-ordinates> and make sure that <UTM> is ticked. (the default seems to be latlong so you will need to select UTM as below;Message Areas - "Can UK lads help with the walkthrough?" – image 1Now when you double click on the first registration point two windows should come up tyhe first for the x UTM co-ordinate and the second with the y UTM coordinate;Message Areas - "Can UK lads help with the walkthrough?" – image 2And bingo!Start digitising!Let me know if this is not clear.Paul Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-29-01, 03:44 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Can UK lads help with the walkthrough?" Hi geordie.I also used UTM for registering my maps. However, if you donot know the UTM co-ordinates you can use Microdem to convert Lat/Lon for you. Just by the side of the IN/OUT button is a blue UTM button press this and up pops a coordinate converter dialog. Make sure that Lat/Long in the top left corner is checked as well as the UTM checkbox in the middle right of the screen. Then hit the little globe in the top left corner. An input co-ordinates dialog comes up and you can enter a Lat/Long. Note you can enter the number as decimal degrees, degrees and decimal minutes, or as degrees minutes and seconds to match Lat/long you have. I use MSAutoroute 2001, but you can get the data from the net if you want.I actually write the Lat/Long and UTM co-ordinates onto my map image with a cross on the registration points. It saves a bit of time especially if you re-register the map image at a later date.Ray (Branchline) Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
