Aug-26-01, 01:52 PM (EST) "Can someone tell me if the lights on the signals can be made brighter?" Hi allCan someone tell me if the lights on the signals can be made brighter? They seem pretty dim light to me... ha ha
When I go rail fanning, I've noticed just how bright they
are. Does anyone know if there is some code somewhere I can
change to brighten them up?Thanks for any help..Patrick Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

This is going from memory, but if it serves me correctly, yes you can change the color (which is what you are really addressing, even if you are meaning intensity and not hue), but that will change the corresponding color for everything else that uses that color.Lawrence Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

If you open up either the Sigscr.dat or Sigcfg.dat with wordpad, I don't remember which one it was, probably the Sigcfg, towards the top of the file you should see a section calling out the different colors. You should see the color name and then 4 numbers after it. These numbers are the alpha, red, green, blue values for that "color". (you could call it red but have it look blue, I actually tried that too, it's kinda neat-looking). The alpha is 255 on all of them, which is the max brightness. You could try adding some green and blue to brighten the red up a bit, but really you're just gonna start turning it pink. One thing I did was in the file, you can do a search for "radius" and the stock simulator value is 0.11 (meters). I changed these values to 0.15 or a little higher. You'll have to search the entire file, I think there's over ten of these. This will make the colored area on the signal head a little wider, as long as you don't mind the colored part extending beyond that little hood over each light bulb on the signal head. This is one thing that kinda bugs me in the sim. Especially at night, you should be able to see those signals from quite a distance, but in the sim they won't pop up until your within about 0.2 miles. This is bad if you're riding yellows, yes you should be prepared to stop at the next signal when passing a yellow, but you should be able to see from further back whether or not you're gonna need to stop. One workaround is to display the track monitor (F4)while running a train. You should be able to see several miles in advance of signals what's ahead. I'm sure there's some standard on prototype signal visibility, but .5 to 1 mile is not too much to ask for.The real solution is probably a hard code fix in the sim itself. Has anyone tried the settings in the advanced display mode? The code needs to set a minimum of pixels turned on to the color of the upcoming signal as it hoves into range and bares no relation to the relative scale of the lens at that distance.Hank Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
