Aug-25-01, 03:48 PM (EST) "Terrain Extractor Help" I ran John's terrain extractor following the instuctions in the read me file. Everything worked out for the most part, however in his read me file there is one step I dont understand. It saids:"7) Set the tile floors and ceilings
There are other files for each tile the format of which haven't been determined yet. You must force the Route Editor to update these for you. Run the Route editor, select terrain patch select mode and click on a terrain patch in the current tile - it may take several clicks to get one to select for some reason. Once selected right click and edit the tile floor and scale. Increase the tile ceiling by one over the value it shows (ie if it said 1321 change it to 1322). Once the ceiling has been changed note that the proper shading will now appear on your terrain. Perform this for each tile converted"So how do I find this terrain patch thing? and is this why some of my route show no terrain (just white and sky)? I grabbed all the Dem's for my route .. plus some. Can anyone help ... Please! Blvdbill Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

HI,
Click on the button out-lined in red. You will see a grid form over the terrain in the editor, groups of small black squares surrounded by blue lines. Each of the LARGE BLUE SQUARES is a tile. Click on a any black square in a blue square and it will outline in red. Once it's red, follow Johns instructions for setting the tile ceiling. You only need to do this to ONE BLACK SQUARE PER BLUE TILE. Remember you must click OK for it to change, if you just hit enter it will not change! SAVE AFTER EACH TILE IS CHANGED.If you only see white and sky you probably forgot to set a 'START TILE' as the last step in the RGE. Go back and do that. Load the route, load the grid, zoom in all the way and choose a tile, click on it and choose 'START TILE' or something like that, can't remember. It will save it automatically. Exit, close the whole Editor window and reopen it and got into Route Ed. You should now see 'a sea of green'. Now you can choose the terrain edit tool and get to workstart Message Areas - "Terrain Extractor Help" – image 1 Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-25-01, 04:59 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Terrain Extractor Help" Thanks for the info on the terrain patch button. As for my other problem (sea of white) I did make a start point. I fact I copied my route to another part of my drive (which I all ready started on). then I ran this terrain thing. I opened my route and I saw the hills (at my start point) then I entered the lat/long to "jump" to a city midway into my route and I see route markers and a sea of white. Any ideas? I guess I could copy my route back over and live with flat land ....Blvdbill
