Colleagues,Work continues on creating a believable representation of the Eagles Nest area of 16 mile Canyon. I have pretty well settled on the methodology, which is to fabricate around the tunnel portals (natural on the east, concrete on the west), and use transfers of the same texture as that used on the cliff face elsewhere. This same texture and variations of it, will be used in several locations because there is a certain sameness about scenes I have collected of this canyon, and yet each one is different, but the difference is more in the shape of things rather than the color.J. RE: RMD-1, fabricating the EaglesNest

I must confess that scenery has never been my strong point - most of my HO layouts have been done in the "Plywood Empire" style. However, there is a plethora of images out there, some recent, some years old, and some from hand-colored postcards of around 1910, covering the 16 Mile, or Montana Canyon.
EaglesNest is so often photographed, particularly the east face shown in this thread, that one just has to get it right. David Long, who posts in the Milwaukee Road Yahoo Group rode a bicycle, modified like a velocoped all through here in 1982. At that time, the rails were still in place, and he photographed it a lot. One of these images was a very sharp one of the east face of EaglesNest which I have attached. The next images proceed west from the west tunnel entrance. I extracted the eastface image above and to the right of the top of the catenary structures to create these textures. I wish you could use 1024x1024 for object textures - that is what I have used to make some TerrTex files, but the ground textures seen was done with transfers of the 512x512 version. I assume that source files have to be standard photographic 72ppi resolution.J. H. Sullivan
