Aug-23-01, 03:25 PM (EST) "Track Database Problems" I was building my route. I saved the route and got an error message telling me that my track database might now be corrupt. Sure enough, when I tried to reload my route, I got the message "Track Database Read Failed". So i tried loading my route and rebuilding the track database. It did this, but when I got into the editor screen, the camera was jumping around like crazy, the lat, long everything was just constantly changing, I couldn't control it. Then I just got the standard error box with the "send don't send" thing. Can anyone help? I had already laid 20 miles of track and am not loking forward to having to re-do it.CheersDave Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-23-01, 05:08 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Track Database Problems" LAST EDITED ON Aug-23-01 AT 05:19 PM (EST)I'm no expert, and I hope one does respond to your post. My experience: the database is trash, once the Route Editor determines there are errors, there's no saving it. I had the same problem, and "flew" the entire Marias Pass route. The Route Editor would point out every error, including the exact Lat/Lon numbers. I corrected every one. I "flew" the route again, no errors were detected. Pleased with myself, I ran the sim, but not one activity would load. Couldn't even Explore. Fortunately, I had backed up the entire USA2 folder a few days previously, so only lost a few changes I had made. I also note through similiar experience that some things have to be changed in a certain order. For instance, I had attempted to replace a dummy crossing (one with the gates attached to the road pads) with the working components, and the Route Editor was very upset that I didn't remove the sound regions first. To punish me, it threw away some crossings I made a few days earlier, and then displayed the dreaded "Send Don't Send" message. Again, a backup saved the virtual day.One other possiblity is that there is some kind of memory problem with the editor. Again, I'm no expert, but if I do several changes/additions/edits, I notice my mouse becomes erratic. As soon as I see that, I bail out of the editor, I don't even bother to save the changes. I exit completely out of the sim, back to the desktop. Then I launch it again, check it the route to see if it's OK (the editor will tell you if it isn't). The I get out of it and run a test train. If it's OK, I back it up (I always have two backups, one known to be good, and another that has not (yet) displayed errors. When I get from one end to the other with a few test trains, then I feel OK in replacing the known good backup with the one I'm working on. Then I can go back to editing the route. Aug-23-01, 06:17 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Track Database Problems" When the database becomes corrupt, you can partially (to fully) fix it by deleting the *.tdb and rdb files. When you do that, and open the route again, they are rebuilt. (Now, I cannot remember if you have to rebuild the track database again, or if it is automatic with those two files gone.)Regarding the program going through the route bouncing all around, that is the way it builds the database. You want to see this message:http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID6/958.html#2It has some very good information about fixing messed up track databases. But you may NOT have to restore from backup and possibly lose work.I have followed the steps in the above link with great success. This next link is also valuable information about the track database:http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID6/809.html#1Good luck. Aug-23-01, 07:19 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Track Database Problems" Damn, exactly the info I needed. Thanks, Lawrence. Maybe I could have recovered a few of the databases I threw away. Anyway, what this site needs is a good FAQ editor. Almost anything posted by JMSteven_W98 should be there. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
