Aug-23-01, 03:22 PM (EST) "Branch Lines" LAST EDITED ON Aug-23-01 AT 04:12 PM (EST)Well, after more time than I care to think about, I believe that I've come up with a working 2 track branchline switch configuration. Also, a large dose of gratitude must go to JMSteven and JohnCS for all of their hard work on our behalf. People like them, as well as the rest of us, are what make this hobby work.....Back to the point at hand. This is for the 10deg left switch, and the pieces are listed in the order at which you place them, going towards the horizon.
Inside track means the track with the shorter distance, on the inside of the curve.Inside track
1. a 9 mtr piece of Dynamic

2. 10deg left switch 3. end pt left 4. 10mtr straight(1t)5. 10mtr straight (2 track,
final look) Outside track
1. a 10mtr straight piece (1t )2. 10deg left switch

3. end pt leftNow the tricky part: from the unattached 2track 10mtr piece, going BACK towards the end pt, put a piece of dynamic track as follows: length=8, radius=96.000, and angle= -0.03For the continuing straight pieces of the mainline, put a 3 meter length of Dynamic track on the slightly shorter section, and a 2 meter length on the longer piece, and they should line up just fine for any 2-track sections.I hope this makes sense to those brave enough to try. I've tried this out on my routes, successfully(!), and have also made it work for right switches as well.I also apologize for the crudity of the instructions; I'm posting this from work using notes written VERY late at night. Again, a tip of the hat to JMSteven for his very polished and lucid directions on other matters.I look forward to your comments and experiences with this, and I'm grateful that a forum like this exists. Thanks,Mike Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-23-01, 08:03 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Branch Lines" If I could remember how to do it, I would! Also, MSTS is home, and I go on-line from the office, but I'll try to figure something out as soon as I can figure out the screenshot process!!Mike Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-24-01, 09:09 AM (EST) 3. "RE: Branch Lines" I would love to see the alignment also. Take a screen shot (Print Screen)... paste it into Paint pro or a similar program, save it as a JPEG file and then attach that file to your post of the message.

Aug-24-01, 06:45 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Branch Lines" Mike,I've had a go at constructing the points and ended up with thisMessage Areas - "Branch Lines" – image 2Does this look right? I didn't know you could cross one track with another without the proper x-over? as I'm nowhere near finishing my route I've no way of testing it - does this work for all directions? Thanks for the advice, if it works it will certainly make my route usable!Paul Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-25-01, 09:30 AM (EST) 9. "RE: Branch Lines" You got it!
That's what mine looks like, and I've gotten it to work just fine. Unfortunately, now I've gone crazy with junctions, crossings, etc. and my route looks so convoluted! I need to find reality again!
I was glad be of some small assistance to the railsim family.Mike Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
