The reason I ask this is that when I switched everything from my local (C drive to my External Hard Drive (F, everything is there but the icon for the Editor and Tools. I am clueless as to how to get it without bringing the program back to my local drive. ThanksMarkb

RE: Any of you builders have MSTS on an External HD?

I am no Windows expert, so I can only tell you what I did. First, I do not have the sim installed on an external HD. I felt that the connection speed would be too slow. I did install a second internal HD, and simply dragged the entire Microsoft Games folder from the C drive to the D drive. The sim itself does not make use of the Windows Registry, but the Editor does. So I ran the Registry Editor, and navigated to the Train Simulator location: (Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\1.0). There are three entries that point to the C drive, if you installed to the default location. Right click on each of those three (in the right pane), select Modify, and change the C to an F, or whatever the drive letter is for your external drive.Of course, back up everything first. Make a Restore Point, if you have that option. Face East, whistle Dixie, hold your breath, pray to your favorite deity; Murphy's Law is in full force at this point.

Bob, HAAA, I completely forgot that I could do that. The EXHD claims it runs at 7200 rpm, promising to run applications smooth on the laptop, and IT does. ThanksChuck, thanks for your post too. Mark

There is an easier way to get it back, and safer than editing the registry. (Something you shouldn't do, unless you really know what your doing, as a mistake there, can make your sysytem unbootable)In your MSTS folder on the external drive you will see a program called launcher.exe. Right Click on it. A menu will pop up. Under "Send to" select Desktop (Create Shortcut). You should now see a Launcher.exe shortcut on the desktop. Right click on it and select "Properties". At the end of the line "Target" add " -runeditor" (Include a space between the Double Quote and the '-') This will allow you to run the editor from the specified drive. If you also have MSTS on your C Drive or other drive, you can create a shortcut for it also the same way that will only affect MSTS on that drive.
