I am wondering if anyone could help me out finding information to locate the files for the Pennsy Middle division route. I'm wondering if they exsist and if they did, where one can locate them now.
I also undertand MSTS-2 had route plans for Pennsy's Horseshoe Bend. Does any one know if there are any plans on this planet to pick-up where MSTS-2 left off?

RE: Pennsy Middle Division route

The guys who created this route, if I remember correctly, recieved a lot of criticism and pulled the route off of www.avsim.com. I still have the route, but cannot redistribute it per their copyright. Tom Moyers Pennsy Middle Division route – image 1

RE: Pennsy Middle Division route

Hey Frank, thanks for sending me the pic. It looks like you are using the new version of the Middle Division with its 2% grade on the curve and new Gallitzin segment. Tom told me last night that as soon as some activities have been developed the new version of the route will be made available through BLLW. Bill Aukamp has given his stamp of approvaland none of the original developers have opposed it (the Little Man). Tom told me some trade in deal is in the works for those who obtained the route by CD from him. More stuff seems to be in the works (http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID3/26828.html); if I understand what this interchange is about (I mean the letters between Carlos and Bill), it looks like Bill is merging the MidDiv with the Port Road and /or the PhilDiv. I told him he ought to go whole hog and tie it into the NEC!!!!! Again thanks for the pic.Maia T. Katz

RE: Pennsy Middle Division route

Well, I am currently extending my NECv4 Extension route out to Harrisburg. So this will allow you to travel from the PRR Middle Division in Harrisburg to either Washington D.C. or New York City. This should make for some fun and interesting activity packs. Especially with the size of the 30th Street Station yard and the Zoo Interlocking in Philadelphia, George.

RE: Pennsy Middle Division route

George,I'm working with Route Riter to try and merge the Port Road from Perrysville Md (Vince' NEC) to Harrisburg and Enola. All that track work and the connection to NECv? is done. I just finished rebuilding Horseshoe Curve on The PRR Middle division with all four tracks on the curve,I also extended the route through Gallitzin, Allegheny, and Portage tunnels and made the loop for Helpers to return to Altoona and put a four Track extension beyond Gallitzin to stage trains (coming off the mountain division) I've eased several of the grades and corrected most ( not sure I got them all) of the really rough segments and bad kinks that existed in the earlier release. I also have redone Harrisburg and Enola on both the Port Road and the Keystone corridor. The enhancements there include more extensive yards at both Harrisburg and Enola, and rebuilt the west end of Rockville Bridge with the flyover junction there. The trackage at HBG for the Reading (to Hershey)is in place. The Tracks of the old WM and Cumberland Northern at the South of Harrisburg station are also in place and cross the Susquehanna River and the interchange with the A &S into Enola and south to Columbia are finished. If I can sucessfully merge these routes then I would be ready to
take a look at what you got coming from Zoo toward Harrisburg.
My mainline (4 Tracks - Keystone Corridor) ends a few miles east of the Junction of the Corridor with the Atglen and Susquehanna Br.( low grade). I don't think the demmed terrain will be much of a problem unless there is a serious difference in height. Route Riter has a function to help over come that. If you want to try and link to this route. let me know when you get track work completed to Thorndale. I may try to extend to the east of Coatesville.I"ll let you know how my merging project goes.Bill A. aka Pennsyfan2

RE: Pennsy Middle Division route

I am all for trying to merge the routes into one route if you are able to do it. A good place to meet may be around Parkesburg. The CSX Freight lines join the PRR/Amtrak mainline around the Downingtown/West Chester area so I want to go further west than this to ensure they are complete and allowing you to continue running freight activities off of the original NECv4 route onto the extension. I am hoping to reach the Parkesburg area sometime around the end of May if things go well, possibly sooner since I am now done graduate school and have some more time. Mike Dimaio contacted me about the merging the Middle Division and my NEC Extension and I gave him a complete list of what has been done so far. If you want the complete list please ask him since it is quite extensive. I am definitely interested in trying to make a complete route however, George.

RE: Pennsy Middle Division route

George, Thanks for the update. I'll hang in here at Parkesburg then and work on scenery from Parkeesburg west. The merger is not going as smoothly as I'd like. Route Riter does not seem to like the Dynamic Track so I'm doing some manual tweaking.Catch up later.Bill

RE: Pennsy Middle Division route

Bill, I am sorry to hear that the merger of the routes is not going well. Especially the issue with the Dynamic Track problem. I try to avoid using Dynamic Track as much as possible, but there are several places where I have needed to use it, mainly in some of the more complex yards where nothing else would work. There are also a couple of places on the NEC Mainline where I have had to use Dynamic Track because there simply are no 6 track curve pieces and the NEC is 6 tracks across along much of the area running through the Philadelphia area. It is fun having a choice of 6 tracks to run on though, something I really missed in the original version of the NEC with only a 4 track mainline south of Philadelphia Hopefully you can get the Dynamic Track problem resolved and good luck working on your route and with merging everything together, George.

RE: Pennsy Middle Division route

George,Got the rebuilt segments of HBG, Rockville and Enola merged into the PRR Middle Div today. This means that The Keystone Corridor, the Columbia and Port Deposit(Port Road) and the PRR Middle Division all have a common link at Harrisburg and Enola. I should now be able to bring in routes east and South of Harrisburg as they are ready.I'm not intending to particularly create some huge route but being able to make routes that follow prototype division points. Or at least create common points where you could hand off the same train from one route to another route ( or divisions)So when you come off my Port Road or Keystone Corridor into Harrisburg You are going to be looking at the same track and scenery.Any way that's my intent.

RE: Pennsy Middle Division route

Got you, Harrisburg however is the point where electrification ended and is the ideal interchange point for heading west. Despite not intending to build a huge route, I think that is probably what you will end up with by merging the NEC Extension which includes NECv4 with the Middle Division since both routes by themselves are fairly large. Not that there is anything wrong with large routes George.

RE: Pennsy Middle Division route

LAST EDITED ON Mar-04-05 AT 11:13 AM (EST)

Guys, as a Pennsy nut I vote for interlocking the all of the four routes together although there is a hidden problem which was pointed out to me this morning by one of those interested in the whole matter. There is the PRR position light signal system (the real thing) in use on the Mid Div and, by default, on the Port Road and Bill's Phildiv. Unfortunately, the NEC uses those god awful color position light signals. Is George going to use the beautiful position light signals on his extension and or his part of the Phildiv? or will he use a combination of both (groan). No matter what happens, an adjustment has to be made in the script files that both signal systems can coexist, aslthough the little man is threatening to resignal the NEC. In any case, it is unclear whether Route Riter can do this mechanically. The Little Man talked to Hank and Hank said he could manually adjust the script files so both systems can coexist. Little Man told me he had forwarded the files to Hanbk. It would be interesting to hear from Mike Simpson and Carlos on the issue. George, Mike asked me to let you know that the note you sent him was truncated. He said he had emailed you, but you have yet to answer. I hope I have not thrown a wet blanket on all this merging activity.Maia T. Katz (a PRR purring cat)

RE: Pennsy Middle Division route

I never recieved Mike's email back to me. I hope that he sent it to my current email address and not the one he had from before as I have since changed jobs and the old one is no longer valid. I emailed him today with the new address. My route is set in the late 1990's since it is based on the NECv4 route and as such it is using the colored signal lights. I personally like both systems, too bad there is no way to switch between signal systems so you could choose what era you wanted to run. We will have to see how it works out, George.

RE: Pennsy Middle Division route

George, I just talked to Mike and he will be writing you later today. HE and Hank Sundermeyer have set up a set of files that allow both sets of signals to be on the route at the same time. Bill and I are the ones doing the merging. We have already merged the Piort Road and the Nec and are working on the Harrisburg end. I would like a version of the route your route before you signal it because that will make it easier to merge. At very least install the files you will be sent that will allow both sets of signals to coexist. Maia

RE: Pennsy Middle Division route

LAST EDITED ON Mar-09-05 AT 12:31 PM (EST)

Well, getting a version of the route to you before it is signalled will not be a problem if you can get the NECv4 route to work merged with the Port Road and Middle Division routes. So far I have not placed any signals or interactive objects other than the ones that originally came with the NECv4 route as it was created. I have been focusing on laying track and I was not planning on placing signals until all of the track laying was completed anyway. I like the idea of being able to choose what set of signals you want to use on the route. With that being the case, I may decide to install two copies on my PC to have the route with both styles of signals. I hope to have the track more accurately laid near Paoli Interlocking by the weekend. This will only leave the Dale, Glen interlocking and the Thorndale interlocking before I am in Parkesburg. Now that I am getting further away from the maze of interlocking tracks down near Philadelphia and laying mainline track the progress is much quicker. The last interlocking between Philadelphia and Paoli is Bryn Mawr with the track in between being all 4 track mainline with no switches which is much easier and quicker to lay down It is a good feeling to be getting closer to Parkesburg. I am hoping to have the Philadelphia Mainline tracks laid to Parkesburg by around Easter at the latest. The rate of progress I am making could make the date I arrive in Parkesburg even earlier however. I will try to contact Mike tonight and let him know more on my progress and give him a more detailed report on what I have been up to. If you can get the NEC to work with the Middle Division project though, you should have no problem adding the NEC Extension to it. The complexity of the 30th Street Station/Zoo Interlocking area and the amount of traffic that travels through this area should make for some great activities to run along the route, George.

RE: Pennsy Middle Division route

Coming expansion of the PRR routes is great news guys. I rode the Pennsy many times in the 50's and still enjoy riding it in MSTS. Really looking forward to seeing the results of your hard work. My thanks to all of the route developers who have contributed so much to MSTS. I am one of the fortunate ones who downloaded the Middle Division from Avsim before the developers removed it because of harsh (and in my opinion undeserved) criticism. I still like to run activities on this route. One request. Where possible, please use manual controlled switches into industrial sidings so those of us who like switching activities can make and enjoy these activities without fighting reverse points.
