RE: looking for scale rail

ScaleRail are not replacements for MSTS standard tracks and need to be manually replaced in all World files of a route. If you want an easier way of enhancing tracks and rails you could try my selection of them in the File Library's tracks.zip, some pictured below !O t t oLooking for scaile rail – image 2 Looking for scaile rail – image 3

RE: looking for scale rail

Are they going to add more scale rail I tried to redo the Miramichi yard and I don't have the right curves, what I really need is a scale rail dynamic track is there more of these tracks to download somewhere else.

RE: looking for scale rail

No there is not ! But they have a utility of relaying Dynamic tracks, I have not checked out yet to see how it works. Have a look into the 3D-TRAINS ScaleRail Forum.O t t o

A sample of ScaleRail

LAST EDITED ON Feb-12-05 AT 11:34 AM (EST)

This is a sample of what the beta looks like...
Looking for scaile rail – image 4
I'm trying it out on the B&O tracks at Johnstown. They don't have a 3 track bridge in the beta, so I used a normal track section. Hopefully the picture does it justice. There are two major issues....
A) Making the rest of the route look just as good
B) You cannot distribute it with your route. Anyone who wants to use your route will have to buy it, or download the beta. You'd have to talk to the gang at 3D Trains to get the specifics on use.Try it out...I'm still not sure I'm gonna use it, but I really like it.Don't forget to download the textures also...It's a seperate file that needs to be copied into the texture folder on your route.Frank MusickMoving America into the 19th Century!

Otto
It may be a case that the gentleman is looking for Scalerail for Mike Deming's CGW V3.Frank
I'll let Marc deliver the gospel on Scalerail but from what I've seen with CGW V3 that it looks like SR works something like Xtracks at least in the distribution of the route, all the textures and such are with your route but the end user needs to DL the package from Marc in order to place the shapes in the Global folder so there's something for the textures to skin so technically you're just distrbuting the textures not the shapes(my apologies to Marc if I've gotten this wrong). As to using SR I'm considering it myself on the Rock Island granted I might have to resort to Xtracks for some of the pieces not in the SR package but from what I've seen on CGW V3 it'll make about 90% of your route look real sharp save for the odd unscale piece.Gary S

RE: A sample of ScaleRail

Making a new route with Scale Rail is a lot easier than anyother type of track in my opinion. With Scale Rail the need for Dynamic track is non existant. As to converting a route to Scale Rail, Use Route Riter which has a replace function then its just a matter of removing dynamic track, which I found a fairly easy task.

If need be, one-off shapes can be generated and aliased in the world files - provided there's an X-Track or default equivalent in the tsection.dat. >B) You cannot distribute it with your route. The textures can be distributed with your route, but I ask that the actual shapes be downloaded from 3DTrains so as to have some version control. More shapes coming - I have 99% of the track complete (new track, tunnels, etc.), with only a few crossover and turnout models left to do. The new pieces are currently in-house beta ATM, but should be released as early as next weekend. I also need to update the documentation. Cheers!

RE: A sample of ScaleRail

I was wondering something about the textures in the download and track textures in general...Guess you're the man to ask The track looks great, but it seems "too" perfect. Are the default textures for concrete sleepers? It's not an issue, I've just spent too much time along gnarly old branchlines. It also wouldn't fit the era's I like to model. Will any textures work? Can I use Jim Wards "rusty rails"?Which brings me to another question...Seems to me I remember something on how you can't have different textures in the same route. Since you're now making "scale" rail it makes sense that you could have different shapes depending on the weight...You know like 125 pound for Class 1 mainline and 40 pound for Buccolic Central, etc...If that was the case could the different tracks would have different textures (I think), like a bridge part versus a regular section. You could use 70 pound or lighter in yards, whatever...and they could be textured burried to the heads in cinders. Weed textures for branch lines?I'm not asking you to do any of this, just thinking out loud. I haven't studied track section creation yet, so I have no clue.Frank MusickMoving America into the 19th Century!

RE: A sample of ScaleRail

Hi Frank,In ScaleRail's current form, you can use two different tie textures. For simplicity, the two are broken into concrete and wood types, but you could subsitute either for the texture of your liking. I messing with route now that uses four different textures - two with wood, and two with concrete, and because there are two different class-1 railroads, each will need their own ballast color. As for different rail weights - this will have to wait until TMTS - it should allow you to define rail based on a known profile. ScaleRail is set to 90lb - a good compromise in keeping the rail a decent size for the sim, yet allowing maximum area for the ballast pile (adding to one will remove from the other), as the tie height is set in the sim and is difficult to manage otherwise.Default MSTS textures are not compatible. Using the templates I have on my forum, you should be able to, however, recreate just about anything that suits your fancy. Current bridges will have ballast, no ballast, and heavy wood tie versions (for trestles). I'm also working on some tunnels to use either concrete, wood timber, and blasted rock. Overgrown track and other features I'm still tinkering with. Only so much can be done before an average PC is brought to its knees. Cheers!

RE: A sample of ScaleRail

I see it all now...Helps if you actually read the web pages you visit I can see there three sets of textures in each group, including the "buried tie" texture.I also downloaded the template I'll try it out. I'm thinking there is no "cobblestone" for street car texture, at least not that I have seen. Thanks for your help!Frank MusickMoving America into the 19th Century!
