Aug-23-01, 01:26 AM (EST) "Excellent results from digitising terrain." I followed the instructions from eveningstar on the getting results from terrain. What results! I did a very detailed area on the great divide (Kicking Horse Pass) and it looks quite real even without details. I can see where the track goes without detailed markers. A few quick pointers:
1/ Max out the settings in MSTS options, especially distance, for working in the route editor.
2/ Test a small area first all the way to the finish to get the methods for every conversion.
3/ When plotting elevation contours, fill in all areas not further apart than the x,y distance(horizontal). I used 250m.
4/ Do not be afraid to experiment, but make backups as you go and update when changes are made.
5/ Be very patient, but most importantly have fun. The results are worth the effort.
Thanks UKtrainsim.

Aug-23-01, 03:20 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Excellent results from digitising terrain." I did the "fill DEM holes" under edit after changing the xyz import settings and got alot more detailed terrain. It showed my errors well. (Holes and ridges where they do not belong) I then redid it with middle of the road settings and the results are quite acceptable. Thanks for all your help.
