In another thread, something you wrote hinted that the 'global' directory is scearched for objects called for in a route. If this combined objects operation is ever bonified as complete, could the combined textures and shapes be loaded into the global subdirectories and the individual route textures and shapes directories be emptied? This just for the purpose of running the stock routes and disregarding the file path requirements of the route editor for the moment.

It then checks the global route folder if it can't find the files it needs. The route editor looks in the local route folder only."Therefore, yes you could put all the SD and ACE files in the global directory, but you wouldn't have them in the route editor! Therefore, you couldn't create routes.Lawrence Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

"RE: Combined Ojects, calling Jim Steven" OK, just confirming, that's what I thought. ....BUT, I also see the combine script may or may not capture everything it's supposed to. And it seems right now testing to see if you have everything is sort of hit and miss, or you need unlimited space to store the stuff that's going to get deleted while you go throught this testing process. Why this wasn't designed to have a common directory for these items is beyond me. Dozens of the same objects are called for in all of the routes. The current default selection is pathetic. We need another ingeneious individual to come up with a sub application (like the DEM extractor) to automate the selection of objects during initial route creation. As for creating new routes. If the merge process is done and copied into the template folder as well as the dat files and combined ref file then when a new route is created, it gets everything.David Klemm

Aug-23-01, 11:33 AM (EST) 4. "RE: Combined Ojects, calling Jim Steven" How about this. Would it work if you built up the global directory structure and then use the "Shortcut" feature to "Shortcut" your routes local shapes, Terrex, and Texture directories. The though came to me while I was creating a bunch of UNIX softlinks.I will try and test this tonight. If it does work then you could shortcut the directories of the stock routes and cut down on the size of the MSTS installation. Even installing routes could be easier.Am I way of on this???Brian Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
