Aug-22-01, 02:04 PM (EST) 2. "RE: To Soon to upload it" Are you saying you want to beta test my route? I'm sure i can find you some totally screwed up changes that never saw the light of day I could give you. For the amount of time I usually take to prepare a route for release at a particular time, I usually give the route a once over and make sure it's drivable, if it is, I will release it. If a switch freezes it or something, I'm not going to catch it, and no one would see the route if I had my few people to give the route to. By giving it to everyone you all can enjoy it, and I can get a large prospective on what I need to change.
All versions so far have had a "0" prefix. Meaning they are all pre-releases. In otherwards you are all my beta testers. I saw something in another thread that said if you aren't up to the bugs and a product that is in development, don't download anything with a "0" e.g. 1.0, 0.x. If you do, you should know what you are in for.-Chris Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

"RE: To Soon to upload it" Hm,Well if it tells you it's a beta you should realise that YOU are beta testing it by running it even if you don't provide feedback.I relesed an Alpha of my track a few weeks back only about 200 people have downloaded it and yes there is lots of bugs etc thats why it's an Alphmy beta will be relesed soon now that I have the track set up and just need to put in a few more things before final testing stage.I will be putting in my towns for the semi-Final (it's PD) only. Aug-22-01, 11:42 PM (EST) 6. "RE: To Soon to upload it" I'm with you, nucleus1. Thats why I pay 50 bucks for commercial software from professionals who thoroughly test and debug their products before taking my money. Who needs a bunch of amateur freeware stuff anyway, when MSTS is not only the most error free game since Wizards and Warriors, it's also like Mary Poppins - Practically Perfect in Every Way! Heck, it already includes six routes, two orange diesels, a choice of two european steam engines in two different colors, and a whole bunch of electric passenger trains! With all that to play with, why download freeware at all? I'll just wait until Microsoft comes out with a 30 dollar add on pack that is as perfect and thoroughly tested as the original. Aug-28-01, 06:18 PM (EST) 8. "RE: To Soon to upload it" Perfect? What product did you buy?The English steam engines drive from the wrong side of the cab. Marias Pass has impassible points that cause derails unless you change the coupling parameters to unrealistic values. There are over 100 incomplete shape items. Physics values are very wrong. You are far more accepting of poor quality than the rest of us, I guess. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-28-01, 11:59 PM (EST) 9. "RE: To Soon to upload it" You don't rcognize sarcasm when you read it, or was I too subtle? This guy is talking about buggy difficult add ons written by ameteur hackers like me, who would love to have some kind of utility to make our stuff as goof proof as possible, and we all coughed up various amounts of money for the MSTS program which was apparently tested for about 30 seconds by a blind man before releasing it. I'm uploading version 3 of the Port Ogden and Northern in a couple of days, and I'm not even gonna bother putting "beta" in the description. Anybody downloading free software oughta know it's on an "as is, no guarantees" basis. I thought this thread was a gag, is he really serious? Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-29-01, 02:13 AM (EST) 10. "RE: To Soon to upload it" Amen Sniper. We keep running into things with MSTS that if we could get it perfect we could, but the vehicle just isn't up to it if and I know what you mean. I thought I was within a week of uploading my new version of Number 11. Oh Lord! Have you tried creating an opposing meet of two trains? I got my signals working and thought I was free and clear. That activity editor has more quirks in it than the Route Editor does! There's just no end to this mountain to climb. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-29-01, 09:49 AM (EST) 11. "RE: To Soon to upload it" I agree, I get more complaints about there not being this, and there ought to be that. I spend so many hours to get uploaded what I do, sometimes it makes it seem not worth it. My philosophy is when I can get the route to a point where I have all the trackwork, activities and scenery in it, and can guarantee it's operation on a clean machine on a reliable basis, then I'll release version 1.0. Until then you will see versions like 0.6b, and 0.8c. Which reminds me, as soon as I can get back on my own computer, I will finish and upload 0.6b.-Chris Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Nov-13-01, 06:31 AM (EST) 12. "RE: To Soon to upload it" Easy fix.. All and every route made by the people should carry the words... PO&N4 "Beta", that way every option is covered.. After all MSTS should of had Beta written on it as well.. :} Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Nov-13-01, 07:06 PM (EST) 14. "RE: To Soon to upload it" Well, buddy, you just keep on truckin'. I'll DL just about anything that says 'New Route' hehehehe. I've tried most of them out; don't like some of them; keep the ones i do like; and understand that those who put in the time and effort are doing this out of love and NOT for money. For the time I've spent on computers in the last 25 years, I'll take someone who loves what they're doing over someone who is working a job any day. For those who want to kvetch I say; If yez can't stand the heat, get outen the kitchen.'

Nov-13-01, 07:17 PM (EST) 15. "RE: To Soon to upload it" Yes i think he was serious,i do have a suggestionif it doesnt work or you dont like it - you can delete the route - it should not harm anything to just delete it.just go to you trainsim/route folder and delete the entire folder for the particular route you want to get rid of.very simpleJason Webb

Nov-13-01, 06:53 AM (EST) 13. "RE: To Soon to upload it" Nucleus has a good point as does everyone else. Only the experienced should attempted the new routes. The process is complicated with stability one of the major issues. The re-worked Settle and Carlisle was a disaster for me, but the Illionios Central and NEC2 work almost perfectly. This is interesting because one is a re-work and the other an original.
There are many factors at work here. This being so, the warning, Beta, should be taken seriously- with the route's probelms or potential problems listed. An e-mail with RFC also added.BTW- try Hank's B&O signals- they are awesome. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
