Hi all!
Did a search for this subject to no avail. I read in another post where you can create a "#7 key" yard veiw for a yard. I get into RE, can find the location, but where it says "move the boundaries of the yard definition to the appropriate size". How is that done? By the coordinates?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

RE: Defining Yard Definition Boundaries

Ok, after you place your yard definition you should be able to see three small squares inside it. If you select (F2 tool) one of the two green ones then you can stretch it (F3 tool). Selecting the center square, you can delete the definition and a few other things. I'm new at it too and the sizing is easy to get out of hand quickly, at least for me. Maybe some will post tips if they have any. BK

RE: Defining Yard Definition Boundaries

Keep the size reasonable and don't overlap other yard definition markers. John

RE: Defining Yard Definition Boundaries

Thanks Br5an and John...
When I open up the "Yard Definition" all I see are yellow lines and red boxes (looks like bounding boxes). I do not see any other color boxes. Anyone one know if a tutorial exists for this? I checked out the page that has "Snipers" tutorials for Route construction, but none for Yard definitions......:-/

RE: Defining Yard Definition Boundaries

FrankG:1. Select "Yard Definition" from "Track Objects" class and put it in center of yard.
2. You should have a red box with 3 green handles.
3. Click on one of the handles, then press F3 key.
4. Drag the handle to cover the area you want.
5. Do the same with the other handles.
6. Deselect and save. For an excellent book on the RE go to http://www.abacus.com
by Michael Vone. If you spend a lot of time in the RE, the cost is more than worth it. Also check out Jumper at jumper.com , another good utility for the RE.John

RE: Defining Yard Definition Boundaries

Thanks John...I have to get Michael Vone's book...no doubt. Is it possible that a route is not set up to accept yard definitions? I doubt it...(N&JC) but I click on "yard definition" and I get the small placement window....and then you say to "put it in the center of the yard". Do I put the placement window in the center of the yard? I do not see the red box with the green handles. I will check it out more.
Thanks

RE: Defining Yard Definition Boundaries

FrankG;Sounds like you might be too close to the ground. Go to the spot you want to place the yard definition at. Then move the camera to a height of 150M to 200m. Just make sure you can make out the track when looking almost straight down. Select Yard Definition from Track Objects. Proceeed as placing any other object, just amke sur the X is away from the track alittle. When you left click to place it, you should see thin red lines forming a box. The way I phrased it before you were probaly looking for a solid red box. On the sides of 2 of the thin lines are green boxes. These are the handles that you select, then drag to define the area you want in the yard view. When satisfied, deselect and save. Hope this clears up the confusion.John

RE: Defining Yard Definition Boundaries

Metraup:Overlapping yard definitions is usually not serious. The problem is that if they are not oriented the same, the transition from one to the next will not be smooth. As an example; YD#1 is oriented to the north and YD#2 is oriented to the east. In YD#1 you are looking down at the top of the track, when you transit to YD#2 you will be looking down at the side of the track. In other words, your view will quickly switch 90 degrees instead of staying steady.John
