Aug-21-01, 03:46 PM (EST) "Hlep needed PLEASE!!!" Hi to anyone who can help me . I have been building a new route for my MSTS and I have just completed the main terminus station and track work leading out of the station and then it happened. I went to save the work that i had just completed and during saving just after it had saved the placment part prior to saving the textures the error box flashed up ( as it has done before but i ignor it and dont send info). Then when I re-started the route editor I found that I had no station no buildings no signals no trees no bridges and most of all NO TRACK, only the end marker and point markers. It was as if the track had been laid just under the ground. It is all in the right place where I had laid it but just not showing. Can anybody help me as I have no idea how to get it all back and I have spent the last week putting it all down. Please Help Me regards Ian... Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

I learned my lesson the hard way ... lay same track, hit save, repeat steps. Sort of a pain but it saves on getting more gray hairs.Bill Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-22-01, 00:22 AM (EST) 3. "RE: Hlep needed PLEASE!!!" Here's what you need to do. You got two things to try. First, do a rebuild of your track database. You do this by going to the route editior, selecting your route and then click on the Advance button. It will show a checkbox. Check it. Then press OK. If you get your objects and stuff back, great! If you don't, don't worry just yet, you still got a fix to go yet.Second, go into your route folder and look for the world folder. In it you will see strange looking file names. Some end with .w and some end with ~w.bk. From the sound of your problem sounds like you didn't get to far. Great! Note how the file names are in pairs (again the .w and the ~w.bk). Find the one that has the largest discrepancy such as .w = 1k and the same file with the extension ~w.bk having a bit more than 1k. If you find it, delete the .w (1k) and rename it's counterpart ~w.bk as .wThis should get your route back. Good luck. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Make a couple backups a day, rename the folders to some kind of chronological order, and to save disk space you can delete anything not unique to the route, like \envfiles \shapes \sounds \terrtex \textures . WHEN - note I say WHEN, not if, it happens again, you can paste in a backup, copy all the common files into it, and not lose more than a couple hours work. You can also use backup copies when you try something and don't like the result, saves a lot of time deleting a whole bunch of stuff, and lets you get a little bolder about experimenting. Of course, I gotta defrag my disk every night with all that copying, pasting, and deleting directories, but it helps a lot.
Hang in there!
