I have downloaded xtracks, xtracks for route builders, and also xtracksf, which are all v3.2. I also downloaded horace v1.1 files; hrc11cab, and hrc11exe files. I did the install of the xtracks to my global folder, and also made a backup. When I started horace it started and then locked up. It keeps doing the same thing everytime I go to open Horace. When I started RE, and tried to select one of the xtracks to put into my route, I got an error message. What am I doing wrong? It doesn't seem that I installed wrong. Please help!!!!!

RE: Xtracks problem

Did you install the Tsection.dat which came with Xtracks into the GLOBAL folder and the Xtracks Shapes files into GLOBAL\SHAPES ? Check the dates of these Shapes files, some should have November 2004 file dates !Would not be the first time that they were copied into the wrong folder ! O t t o

RE: Xtracks problem

I installed the tsection.dat file in the general Global folder from xtracks, and also install all of the .s and .sd files in the general shapes folder that is in the general Global folder. Should I also copy these into my new route folders? I started a new route about a week ago, but was just getting all my ducks in order before I started laying track, so I just saw the xtracks thing and now everytime I go into my route to start laying track, I get an error asking if RE should continue because it failed to open texture file route\Cincinnati 2\textures\Concrete 3.ace, which is my new route.

RE: Xtracks problem

Hi Jeremy !Accuracy and attention to detail are the #1 requirements for working in the RE and doing things with computers in general. The "General Shapes" folder is the GLOBAL\SHAPES folder and the "Concrete 3.ace" is Concrete3.ace which is in my GLOBAL\TEXTURES folder.I seem to remember that the Concrete1/2/3/4.ace came with Xtracks ?Which track sections did you put down after which the RE started complaining ? If it was "Concrete" ones then they need the Concrete1/2/3/4.ace files in the Route's you are working on TEXTURES folder where the Acleantrack1/2.ace files are. Most of all, BACK-UP the route you are working on after every successful session which lets you back into the RE without complaints ! RE: Xtracks problem

Actually I haven't put any Xtracks down in my route. As soon as I go to open the placement window and select track sections, it starts loading all of the options of different tracks and the thumbnails, and then comes up with the error of the concrete3.ace texture files. It only does it when I have copied all of the xtracks .s and .sd files into the Global\Shapes folder, and also copy the tsection.dat file into the Global\ folder. Sorry about being specific, especially with computer problems.

Deselect the show thumbnails option in the object selector cause that tries to open every track section listed in the standarized tsection.dat and you will not be able to work with it selected.
With it deselected you will only get the error when you try to use one of the sections needing extra textures. Please note that not all sections listed are included with XTracks, some come from other track add-ons like UKFS or ScaleRail.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-06-04 AT 08:37 AM (EST)

Hi Jeremy !Interim solution is to create a copy of the Acleantrack1.ace in that route's TEXTURES folder and rename it to concrete3.ace Send me an E-Mail with a valid return address and I shall send you a Zip of the 4 concrete?.ace files but you would still need to download the tracks which need them if you want to use them in your route. Helpful sometimes if you would like 2 different trackbed types in the same route ! Have a look inside the Tsection.dat and you will find the creators of all the tracks listed in it.O t t oP.S.: There will be occasions when you select a track piece in the RE to be told that it does not exist. That is because you have not got that piece's creator track shape in GLOBAL\SHAPES. SCALERAIL being one of these Add-On tracks. Ignore the message and say Y to continue.ROUTE RITER has an option to let you strip any track references you do not have shapes for out of the Tsection.dat ! Doing that would also prevent further messages about missing items.

Hi Jeremy !When you want to send E-Mail to a member while in the forum, try to use the "Send E-Mail" Icon at the top right of messages. Most including mine work but make sure you quote your current return E-Mail address in the message, the one used by the Forum Mailer not always being up to date.Concrete.zip on the way to you shortly !O t t oP.S.: What Readme file of mine are you referring to ?

First regarding the downloads, you don't need both xtracks.zip and xtracksf.zip (I take it it's version 3.12 you downloaded, not v3.2). Their contents is the same and my advice is that you use the installer in xtracks.zip (the xtracksf.zip is only for those people not wanting to use an installer).
I advice against using the old Horace v1.1 anymore. There is an updated version 2.0 of Horace available in the tk_utils.zip package. Are you sure you need to use Horace? Some people do not understand the prupouse of Horace and use it just to be 'safe' which is the wrong tactics.
If you do need to use Horace (that is you have a route under construction and this is the first time you use the standardized tsection.dat) download the never version mentioned above and have some patience while it is running. The old Horace v1.1 took a very long time doing it's job, it was not designed to handle the very big tsection.dat we have now.
If you started RE without finishing Horace and got an error message chance is you corrupted the route. I strongly advice you revert back to the backup you made before installing XTracks and start over. Trying different things without knowing the proper steps you can get in allsorts of problems which can be very difficult to correct.

RE: Xtracks problem

Yes I downloaded Version 2 of Horace, ubt it does the same thing as v1.1. Also the only reason why I am trying to use Horace, is because it states in the installation instructions that you need to use Horace to do something when route building and/or updating from older versions of Xtracks.

No it does not say that. It says you need to use Horace if updating from a version PRIOR to v3.0, that is if updating from v1 or v2 of XTracks or if this is the first time you are using the standardized tsection.dat with that route. If you are updating from any earlier version 3.something you do NOT need Horace.
Also there is no 'or' in the "when route building and/or updating from older versions of XTracks", it is when route building AND updating from version of XTracks older than v3.0.
