Hi Everybody I want to build a subway line, the line I am going to build is in Toronto, The Bloor-Danforth line. I am also going to build a subway for it. I was told that there is some good programs in the File Library but i cant get in there for some reason. So could anybody tell me if Train Sim modeler is a good program to get to build routes or not could somebody tell me what I should get so I can build a route and subway. Any help is most appreciated thanks for anything.ThanksBrad
Building a route in MSTS takes a whole lot of time and effort. Laying track is easy enough but if you are following a real RR route then figuring out where to lay your MSTS track often takes as much or more time. Adding scenery of any kind often leads you to needing custom shapes, things you have to build yourself in 3d cad (or find somebody who is equally interested in your route that will do you the favor of building and skinning shapes for you). For instance, it's unlikely there is anything in the library suitable for a subway station. That's something you'd have to do on you own.Place to start? Yeah, read a lot of stuff here. Pay the subscription fee to get immediate access to the file library, and download stuff... not just trains but different routes, check them out with the route editor. You'll find utilities too. But get a bit more familiar with what's available and what people are asking help about, etc. etc., before you try route building yourself.Good luck.Dave NelsonWP mainline, Oakland-Stockton: 100% complete; SP mainline, Oakland-Stockton: 20% complete; Aug 1950 <<new .sig under construction>>
You'll find that laying subterranean track can normally be quite frustrating. What's been working for me is using the 'Y' key in Route Editor to lower the terrain to track level. Then when I save and exit I'll say yes to saving world object and no to saving terrain changes. Next time you load up the route, voila, the terrain level is as before the 'Y' key method. ~ (undo last terrain change) and Ctrl + ~ (undo all terain changes since last save) come in handy as well. Good Luck, BK
